Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Announced at Anime Expo

Fans of Night City have a reason to get excited again. CD Projekt Red just confirmed that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is officially happening. The big reveal came during Anime Expo, where the studio surprised fans with fresh art and a teaser about what’s next for this gritty universe.

The first season, which dropped on Netflix in 2022, won over anime lovers and gamers alike. Its raw mix of neon chaos, heartbreak, and rebellion made Edgerunners feel like more than just a game spin-off. Now the next chapter is on the way, and it promises to push things even further.

What Will Edgerunners 2 Be About?

Unlike many sequels, Edgerunners 2 isn’t picking up where David Martinez left off. That story ended, but Night City always has more chaos brewing. This time, fans get a new 10-episode stand-alone story. CD Projekt Red’s Bartosz Sztybor wants to dig deeper into Night City’s darkest corners. He says this one’s going to be sadder, rawer, and even bloodier.

The main question the new season asks is bold. In a city that feeds off violence and flashy tragedy, how far will someone go to make their story matter? If you’ve seen the first series, you know this world chews people up fast. So, expect fresh characters ready to risk it all for redemption and revenge.

Who’s Bringing Night City Back To Life?

The original director, Hiroyuki Imaishi, made a special stop at the Anime Expo panel. He’s handing the directorial torch to Kai Ikarashi for the new run. This will be Ikarashi’s big debut with Edgerunners. He’s not alone though. Sztybor is back steering the story, joined by Kanno Ichigo for character design and Masahiko Otsuka adapting the screenplay.

Trigger Studio, the powerhouse behind the original season’s wild visuals, is also returning. Voice actors Emi Lo and Zach Aguilar joined the panel to share behind-the-scenes stories from the first season. Their cameo reminded fans of what made David and Lucy so iconic.

There’s no release date yet. But for Night City fans craving more neon chaos and gut-punch moments, this news hits just right.
