Charlotte Teen Eamon Leary, 16, Died in Davidson Crash; Mother Collapses at Door as Officers Deliver Devastating News And Accussed, Tristan Lehman
A Charlotte family is shattered after a late-night car accident took the life of Eamon Mason Leary, a 16-year-old boy described by his mother as her angel, her heart, and her greatest hope in life.
The crash happened on Shearer Road in Davidson, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, in the early hours of Saturday, June 7, 2026. Five teenagers were in the vehicle when it lost control and struck a tree. Eamon did not survive.
The other teens in the car sustained injuries, but because they are all minors, authorities have not released their names or the full extent of their conditions.
The news came to Eamon’s mother, Kerri Fitzgerald, at 4:30 in the morning. Two police officers showed up at her door, one of them a chaplain. She initially feared her son had done something wrong.
Nothing could have prepared her for what they told her next. She collapsed to the floor as the chaplain held her. In a deeply personal post that has since moved thousands of people, Kerri wrote that Eamon was a kid who truly loved laughing and doing good in life.
She described the pain now spreading through her family as unbearable, from her parents who adored him, to his sister, to his wide circle of close friends who are all now grieving alongside them.
Tristan Lehman Arrested and Charged Following the Fatal Crash
Davidson police say Tristan Lehman, also 16, was behind the wheel that night, driving recklessly and while impaired on Shearer Road. Lehman was booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail on Saturday in connection with Eamon’s death.
According to reports, he has since posted bail. The investigation has shifted from a traffic accident into a criminal matter, and authorities are continuing to gather facts surrounding the events of that night.
The arrest has added a layer of pain on top of grief for many who knew Eamon. The thought that a classmate’s reckless decision may have ended his life has left his community searching for answers and accountability.
Eamon’s mother has asked for prayers not only for her family but for all the families of the kids involved, including Tristan’s own family, who are also facing a road ahead no parent would ever want to walk.
A Community Mourns a Boy Who Had Everything Ahead of Him
Eamon was 16, full of laughter, surrounded by friends, and loved deeply by a family who made his safety their daily prayer. His grandfather was his hero and role model. His mother says the grief her father is now carrying is beyond words.
A funeral announcement and memorial service are expected to be shared the following week.
For many parents reading this story, it is a gut-punch reminder of how quickly life can change. A mother went to bed one night with her son alive and woke up to two officers at her door.
That is the reality Kerri Fitzgerald is now living, and it is one that no parent should ever have to know.
