Beloved Brown Dog Pizza Staffer Barrett Hubregsen, 50, Passes Away in Telluride, Colorado
The small mountain town of Telluride, Colorado, is grieving the loss of one of its own. Barrett Hubregsen, a longtime local and cherished member of the Brown Dog Pizza family, passed away on May 26, 2026, at the age of 50.
Born on August 14, 1975, right in Telluride, Barrett spent his entire life rooted in the community that is now coming together to remember him.
News of his passing spread quickly through town and across social media, where friends, regulars, and neighbors took to the comments to share their sorrow. The response was immediate and heartfelt, a reflection of the kind of person Barrett was known to be.
Brown Dog Pizza, one of Telluride’s most beloved local spots, announced it would close its doors on Thursday, May 28th, to give staff the time and space to grieve properly and honor Barrett’s memory.
In a post shared on the restaurant’s Facebook page, the team wrote that they would be taking the day to mourn his loss and celebrate his life, asking the community for understanding during what they described as a deeply difficult time.
“Barrett’s celebration of life will begin on Thursday at Telluride Town Park at 11:00 am. We invite any and all who wish to join us in remembering our dear friend,” the post read.
A Familiar Face at the Heart of the Community
For those who knew Barrett, he was more than a coworker or a pizza shop staffer. He was a constant presence, a familiar face, the kind of person you ran into around town and always left the conversation feeling a little better than before.
Carol Petrick Kitchenhoff, who commented on the announcement, described meeting Barrett years ago and remembered him as a loving and kind soul. Others echoed the same warmth in their words.
Johannes Beere, another community member, shared that he had just recently seen Barrett and exchanged stories with him, a reminder of how sudden and unexpected his passing was. “We always enjoyed seeing him,” Beere wrote, capturing the quiet but meaningful role Barrett played in the daily rhythm of Telluride life.
Ahhhh no. We just fed him at CB and shared a couple funny stories. We always enjoyed seeing him at BD and sometimes when we’d be at the same show or when he walked through our door. Always kind to Kristen & I. Sorry for the loss but yeah way too soon
Jon Olsen kept it simple, posting “RIP Barrett. BD Pizza is the best Pie on the Planet,” a nod to both the man and the place he helped make special.
Telluride Mourns One of Its Own
Telluride is a tight-knit place where people tend to know each other, and the loss of a homegrown resident like Barrett carries a particular weight. He was born and raised in this mountain community long before it became a destination for the world.
He stayed, worked, and built his life among the same people and streets he grew up around.
As the town prepares to gather at Telluride Town Park on Thursday morning, the outpouring of condolences from locals and visitors alike speaks to what Barrett meant beyond any single role or title. He was simply a good person, loved by the people around him.
Brown Dog Pizza and the Telluride community extend their deepest condolences to Barrett’s family and all those who called him a friend.
