Asheville police are investigating a shooting that left two people dead and seven others injured early Sunday morning in what officials are calling a large and active crime scene.
Officers responded to the 250 block of Biltmore Avenue around 2:20 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire and multiple people down. When they arrived, they found several victims with gunshot wounds scattered across the area.
Despite efforts from police, EMS crews, and Asheville Fire Department personnel to save them, two victims died at the scene. The remaining seven were rushed to Mission Hospital for treatment.
