Amazon Employee Travion Taylor, 27, Dies After Melrose Park Workplace Shooting
A 27-year-old Amazon employee was fatally shot Thursday morning inside a parking garage at an Amazon delivery station in Melrose Park, Illinois, authorities confirmed. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Travion R. Taylor, a resident of Melrose Park.
The shooting occurred around 9 a.m. at the Amazon facility located at 1825 5th Avenue, inside a controlled-access parking garage restricted to employees. Taylor was shot following what investigators described as a personal dispute between him and another man.
He was transported in critical condition to Loyola University Medical Center, where he underwent surgery but later died from his injuries.
Police confirmed that two bullet casings were recovered at the scene. The suspect fled the premises before officers arrived and remains at large. No arrests have been made as of Thursday evening.
Surveillance Footage Under Review as Manhunt Continues
Investigators from the Melrose Park Police Department, the West Suburban Major Crime Task Force, and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office are actively working the case.
Authorities and Amazon personnel are jointly reviewing surveillance footage from the facility, including footage from a pod camera that captured two vehicles leaving the parking garage shortly after the shooting.
At least 60 employees were present at the facility at the time of the incident, though no other injuries were reported. Authorities described the shooting as an isolated incident stemming from a dispute between two individuals rather than a broader threat to the workplace or surrounding community.
Amazon confirmed that Taylor was an employee and issued a statement expressing condolences.
“This is a senseless tragedy. Our thoughts are with our employee’s family, friends, and our team at our Melrose Park delivery station. Right now, our priority is supporting them. The delivery station has been deemed safe, and we have added additional security. We are supporting police as they investigate and defer to them for further details,” said Lex Evans, an Amazon spokesperson.
Village officials echoed that the delivery station has been deemed safe and that the incident appears to be isolated in nature. Additional security measures have been put in place at the facility following the shooting.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has any information about the suspect to contact the Melrose Park Village Police Department.
The West Suburban Major Crime Task Force, which assists local departments in serious criminal investigations across the region, remains involved in what is now a homicide investigation.
The shooting has shaken employees and community members in Melrose Park, a village in the western suburbs of Chicago. The Amazon facility, which operates as a delivery station, serves a significant portion of the surrounding region and employs hundreds of workers.
As the investigation continues, authorities are pressing the public to come forward with any leads. The suspect, who fled the scene in a vehicle, has not been identified.
Investigators are hopeful that the surveillance footage and witness accounts will help bring the case to a resolution.
Anyone with information is asked to reach out to the Melrose Park police immediately.
