When Is The Notebook Leaving Netflix and Why? Here’s What You Need to Know

If The Notebook is your go-to comfort movie, you might want to schedule a rewatch soon. The beloved romantic drama is set to leave Netflix on September 1, 2025, as part of the platform’s monthly content shuffle.

Netflix regularly updates its movie lineup at the start of each month, adding new titles while removing others due to expiring licensing agreements. According to reports from What’s On Netflix, The Notebook will be departing along with other popular titles like 50 First Dates (2004), Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004), and Blood and Bone (2009).

Although Netflix hasn’t issued a statement specifically about The Notebook, the reason behind its removal is likely related to licensing. Streaming platforms like Netflix secure the rights to films for a limited period. Once that agreement expires and if it’s not renewed, the title has to be removed — and that seems to be the case here.

But don’t worry — The Notebook won’t disappear completely. Fans will still be able to rent or buy the film on platforms such as Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play Movies, and more. There’s also a chance it could show up on another streaming service down the line, though nothing has been confirmed yet.

Directed by Nick Cassavetes and based on the best-selling novel by Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook premiered in 2004 and starred Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams as Noah and Allie — a couple whose love story spans decades. The film has since become a modern classic in the romance genre and still holds a strong fanbase more than two decades later.

With less than a month left, now’s the perfect time to revisit the tearjerker or watch it for the first time if you somehow missed it. Whether it’s the iconic rain-soaked kiss or the unforgettable line, “If you’re a bird, I’m a bird,” there’s a reason this movie still tugs at heartstrings.

So, if you’re planning a movie night soon, be sure to queue up The Notebook before it exits Netflix on September 1, 2025.
