Sarah Jessica Parker Says Tearful Goodbye to Carrie Bradshaw as ‘Sex and the City’ Universe Comes to an End After 27 Years

It’s officially the end of an era. Sarah Jessica Parker is saying an emotional goodbye to the character that changed her life — and pop culture — forever. After 27 years of portraying Carrie Bradshaw across HBO’s Sex and the City, two feature films, and three seasons of And Just Like That, Parker has confirmed that this is truly the final chapter.

Showrunner Michael Patrick King broke the news that the Sex and the City franchise will conclude with the third and current season of And Just Like That, currently streaming on HBO Max. The announcement prompted Parker to share a touching tribute on Instagram — a highlight reel of Carrie’s most unforgettable moments, set to a heartfelt poem about the beloved character’s final bow.

“Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years,” Parker wrote in her caption. “I think I have loved her most of all. I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her. The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion. Therefore the most sentimental and profound gratitude and lifetime of debt. To you all.”

Parker ended her post with the words “this chapter complete,” and expressed deep love for the team behind And Just Like That, calling it a “joy, adventure, the greatest kind of hard work alongside the most extraordinary talent of 380 that includes all the brilliant actors who joined us.”

Her longtime co-star Kristin Davis, who has played Charlotte York since the beginning, also posted a heartfelt message of her own. “I am profoundly sad. I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working so hard on our show with deep love. And to our loyal fans, we love you forever and ever.”

Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda Hobbs, echoed the emotion. “I can’t believe our wild, beautiful And Just Like That ride is almost over,” she wrote. “It has been such a delight from start to finish. I will miss working with these people every day SO incredibly much but know we will always be a part of each other’s lives.”

Nixon also teased fans to stay tuned for the final two episodes, promising “surprises in store” and more “carousels” — a nod to the show’s trademark whimsical storytelling.

Michael Patrick King said the team intentionally waited to share the news of the show’s end. “We didn’t want the word ‘final’ to overshadow the fun of watching the season,” he explained. “It’s with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years.”

And Just Like That Season 3 is now airing on HBO Max, with just two episodes left. These final chapters will serve as a two-part series finale, officially closing the door on one of TV’s most iconic franchises.

Whether you loved her for her fashion, her friendship, or her fearlessly messy love life, Carrie Bradshaw is saying goodbye. And fans are feeling it.
