Courtney Stodden Says Goodbye to Alcohol: “It’s a Breakup I Had to Make”

Courtney Stodden is stepping into a new chapter. The model and singer, known for their time on Celebrity Big Brother and years in the public spotlight, took to Instagram on Tuesday, July 15, to share a deeply personal decision. They announced they are officially breaking up with alcohol, calling it a relationship that has caused more harm than healing.

Why is Courtney Stodden quitting alcohol now?

In the heartfelt post, Stodden explained the emotional weight behind their choice. “Alcohol, I’m breaking up with you,” they wrote. “It’s been a toxic relationship for years. Something I used to cope, to escape, to survive. But it’s hurt me more than it’s ever helped me—publicly and privately.”

They went on to say that their drinking had reached a point where it no longer served any purpose. “I’m done letting it control me. I’m done feeling sick and ashamed. I want to be fully present in my life,” they added, making it clear that this isn’t just about sobriety, but about healing.

What led to this major lifestyle change?

Stodden has lived much of their life in the public eye. From their controversial 2011 marriage to actor Doug Hutchison when they were only 16, to becoming a voice for survivors of online harassment, they’ve endured plenty of personal challenges. Their divorce was finalized in 2020, and in 2021, Stodden came out as non-binary and began sharing their story more openly.

They also spoke out about the emotional toll of being bullied by public figures like Chrissy Teigen, an experience that drew widespread media attention.

Now, by quitting alcohol, Stodden is prioritizing mental clarity and emotional health. They ended their post with a note to fans and followers: “To those who understand this battle—thank you. Please respect my space as I walk this new path. It’s not easy, but it’s necessary.”

Their message is already resonating with many who are facing similar struggles. Stodden’s honesty reminds us all that choosing ourselves is never the wrong decision.
