Murderbot Renewed for Season 2 at Apple TV+ With Alexander Skarsgård

Murderbot is sticking around. Apple TV+ just gave the green light for Season 2 and fans couldn’t be happier. If you’re new here, Murderbot is not your average sci-fi show. Sure, there’s danger and aliens and big missions, but at its core, it’s about a security robot that really just wants to be left alone to binge its favorite soap operas.

Alexander Skarsgård voices Murderbot. He nailed the mix of deadpan sarcasm and hidden feelings that make this bot so addictive to watch. The first season wraps up July 11. The renewal came just before the finale, which means Apple TV+ has a lot of faith in this weird, lovable droid.

Why Do People Love Murderbot So Much?

The show is based on Martha Wells’ Murderbot Diaries books. Those books won Hugo and Nebula awards for good reason. They made sci-fi feel fresh again. Murderbot isn’t out here saving the galaxy out of noble duty. It’s just trying to survive its job while secretly hoping for a little peace and quiet to watch Sanctuary Moon, its favorite soap.

Chris and Paul Weitz run the show. They adapted the books and stuck close to the vibe fans love. Smart, funny, but always with this feeling that you’re watching someone — or something — trying to figure out how to exist when nobody expects them to want more.

Who’s Coming Back For Season 2?

Skarsgård is locked in. And the rest of the crew should be back too. Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones and Tamara Podemski round out the cast. It’s an oddball team but that fits. Murderbot’s job is to keep them alive. Sometimes that means blasting through threats. Sometimes that means hiding its secret free will so no one panics.

Matt Cherniss at Apple TV+ called the show “brilliantly original” and said Season 2 will dig deeper into Murderbot’s world — and yes, more Sanctuary Moon is on the way. Martha Wells is still involved as a consultant. She makes sure the show doesn’t drift too far from what made her books a hit in the first place.

Fans only have to wait a bit to find out what kind of mess Murderbot will clean up next. Or maybe cause. Depends how much time it gets to watch TV in peace.
