‘Sinners’ Used Costumes From Marvel’s Delayed ‘Blade’ Movie
Sometimes movie secrets hide in plain sight. “Sinners,” Ryan Coogler’s vampire thriller, pulled off one that even die-hard Marvel fans didn’t spot right away. Turns out some of the costumes worn on screen were once meant for Marvel’s troubled “Blade” reboot.
How Did ‘Sinners’ End Up With Blade’s Costumes?
Producer Sev Ohanian dropped this gem during a chat with ScreenCrush. He called it a “fun Marvel easter egg.” He shared how costume designer Ruth Carter had done loads of prep for “Blade.” The plan back then was for “Blade” to show parts of its story in the past. So Carter stocked up on clothes that fit that old-school vibe.
Then “Blade” got stuck. Shoots stalled. The warehouse full of clothes just sat there. Right when “Sinners” needed costumes fast, Marvel stepped in. They let Coogler’s team grab those clothes at cost. It saved the day. Background actors in “Sinners” walked around in outfits that were once stitched for Mahershala Ali’s vampire world. Lead actors still had fresh costumes, but that hidden connection added extra cool points.
Why Does This Surprise So Many Fans?
“Sinners” hit theatres April 18. Nobody guessed its link to Marvel. The movie stormed past $364 million worldwide. It’s rare to see an original horror film outdo so much big IP stuff. It’s now the eighth biggest movie of 2025. The only one in the top 10 that didn’t start as a comic or sequel.
Meanwhile, “Blade” has been floating in limbo since 2019. Fans want it bad. Mahershala Ali is still ready. He told Variety at the “Jurassic World Rebirth” premiere that he’s waiting for Marvel’s call. Fans keep hoping that the daywalker will rise soon. Until then, a piece of him quietly lives in “Sinners” every time an extra walks by in those old threads.
