Edgar Wright’s ‘The Running Man’ Trailer: Glen Powell Leads Deadly Game Show
Edgar Wright is back and he’s bringing “The Running Man” to theaters this November. The trailer just dropped and it’s got that signature Wright energy all over it. If you’ve seen “Baby Driver” or “Shaun of the Dead,” you know exactly what I mean. Fast cuts. Sharp humor. And always a bit of chaos.
This time, Glen Powell steps into the chaos as Ben Richards. He’s not your average game show contestant. He’s the main prize on a show where people are hunted for sport. It’s King’s old story reloaded with a new cast and that dark satire still hits hard.
Who Else Is Joining The Game?
The cast list is stacked. Colman Domingo is the host, dripping with charm and danger. Katy O’Brian and Daniel Ezra are fellow contestants who don’t plan on dying easy. Josh Brolin is running the whole twisted show behind the scenes.
And there’s Ben’s wife, Sheila, played by Jayme Lawson, who might be the emotional anchor in all this madness. Then you’ve got Lee Pace, Michael Cera, William H. Macy, and Sean Hayes sprinkled in. You can bet Wright will use every single one of them well.
How Is This Different From The Old Movie?
Back in 1987, Arnold Schwarzenegger made “The Running Man” an over-the-top action fest. It’s still fun. Big hair, big guns, big one-liners. Wright’s version looks tighter. Still brutal, but sharper.
He co-wrote it with Michael Bacall. If you’ve seen “Scott Pilgrim,” you know their style together. Expect slick lines and clever scenes. Plus, Chung Chung-hoon is behind the camera. He shot “Last Night in Soho,” so you know it’ll look slick.
Filming wrapped fast. They started last November in England and wrapped in March. That’s quick for Wright. But he knows how to make a movie move.
Get ready. “The Running Man” hits theaters November 7.
