Game of Thrones: War for Westeros Strategy Game Coming to PC in 2026

Fans of Game of Thrones have something big to look forward to. Warner Bros. Interactive and PlaySide Studios are teaming up to bring Westeros to life in a whole new way—with a real-time strategy PC game titled Game of Thrones: War for Westeros. The game was announced during Summer Game Fest in Los Angeles and is slated to release sometime in 2026.

This marks a major shift for the franchise in the gaming world. Up until now, Game of Thrones has mostly been used for mobile spin-offs. But this time, it’s a full-scale, PC-focused experience that gives players more control than ever before.

Choose Your House, Control the Realm

The game puts players directly in the thick of Westeros’ endless power struggles. You can choose to lead one of four major factions: House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, or the Night King and his undead forces. Each faction will have its own strengths, heroes, and unique battlefield strategies.

The real-time strategy format means battles will unfold in fast-paced, tactical gameplay where no decision is without consequence. You’ll need to plan out your moves, command armies, and build powerful alliances—or betray them when the time comes.

Expect a wide range of units to choose from, including cavalry, siege engines, giants, dragons, and standard infantry. These units, combined with the game’s asymmetric faction mechanics, promise a fresh experience whether you’re rallying loyal Northern bannermen or unleashing White Walkers on King’s Landing.

Inspired by the Show and the Books

What sets War for Westeros apart is how it draws not just from HBO’s hit series, but also from George R.R. Martin’s original A Song of Ice and Fire novels. The game’s world-building, political choices, and character dynamics will be heavily influenced by both mediums.

Iconic locations such as Winterfell, Dragonstone, The Wall, and King’s Landing will serve as battlegrounds or key strategic points throughout the game. Whether you’re engaged in short skirmishes or drawn-out campaigns across the realm, every victory and betrayal will shift the course of the war.

Solo Campaigns or Multiplayer Mayhem

The game supports both single-player and multiplayer modes. Players can dive into solo campaigns, reenacting or rewriting famous moments from the series, or team up—or go head-to-head—with friends online in dramatic multiplayer clashes.

According to PlaySide’s game director Ryan McMahon, the game aims to give fans the feeling of truly “playing the game of thrones,” not just watching it. “Whether you’re leading the Starks, Targaryens, or even commanding the Night King, you’ll wield real power and rewrite the fate of the realm,” he said.

For strategy lovers and Game of Thrones die-hards alike, War for Westeros promises a throne worth fighting for.
