Jessie J Reveals Early Breast Cancer Diagnosis, Plans Surgery After June Concert

Jessie J is known for wearing her heart on her sleeve, and this week she did just that. The pop star took to Instagram on Tuesday to share that she’s been diagnosed with early breast cancer. In her post, she emphasized the word “early,” clinging to hope even while acknowledging how tough the situation is. “Cancer sucks in any form,” she wrote, “but I’m holding onto the word early.”

The 36-year-old singer said she’s been going through a whirlwind of medical tests over the last couple of months. The diagnosis came just before the release of her single “No Secrets” in late April, a song she had no idea would take on such a deeper meaning in light of her current reality.

Timing, Irony, and a Very Human Reaction

Jessie didn’t hold back when talking about the surreal timing of her diagnosis. “To get diagnosed with this, as I’m putting out a song called ‘No Secrets’ right before a song called ‘Living My Best Life’—I mean, you can’t make it up,” she said.

She also admitted that staying busy has kept her from fully processing what she’s facing. “I’m not processing it because I’m working so hard,” she said. “But honestly, I need to process it and talk about it. I need a hug.” Jessie added that sharing her story has helped her connect with others in the past and hopes it will again.

Plans to Step Away After June 15 Performance

Despite the diagnosis, Jessie J will go ahead with her performance at the Summertime Ball in London on June 15. But after that, she plans to step back from the spotlight and undergo surgery. “I’m going to disappear for a bit,” she told fans. Even in the face of something as serious as cancer, Jessie’s humor came through. “It’s a very dramatic way to get a boob job,” she joked.

Her upcoming “No Secrets Tour 2025” across the UK and Europe is still scheduled to begin in late summer, with Amsterdam kicking things off. That said, fans will no doubt keep an eye on updates as she continues her health journey.

Always Open, Always Real

This isn’t the first time Jessie has spoken publicly about her health. In the past, she’s shared her experience with COVID-19, her miscarriage in 2021, and the physical toll of performing. In May 2023, she gave birth to her first child with partner Chanan Safir Colman, a former professional basketball player.

Now, facing something as serious as breast cancer, she’s leaning on her fans once again. “You have loved me through all my good and hard times. And I don’t want this to be any different.” Her message was raw, emotional, and incredibly human.
