Mike Myers and “Kanye” Reunite in Hilarious SNL Season 50 Finale Skit

It’s been almost 20 years since one of the most awkward moments in live television history — and Saturday Night Live finally gave us the reunion we didn’t even know we were waiting for.

During the Season 50 finale of SNL on Saturday, May 17, Mike Myers made his fourth appearance of the season and took center stage in a skit that poked fun at his infamous 2005 Hurricane Katrina fundraiser moment with Kanye West.

A Long Elevator Ride Into the Past

The sketch begins in a simple setting — an elevator. Myers is joined by Scarlett Johansson, who was hosting the episode for the seventh time, and SNL cast member Marcello Hernandez. The light-hearted vibe quickly turns into a cringe-fest when Kenan Thompson enters the elevator, portraying Kanye West.

Myers, playing himself, quickly finds himself trapped in an uncomfortably familiar situation: side-by-side with “Ye,” awkward tension and all.

As Johansson’s character bails from the elevator to avoid the tension, Myers is left to face Thompson’s West alone. What follows is a painfully funny trip down memory lane.

Fake West opens the convo with a jab straight from the history books: “Remember that Katrina benefit where I said George Bush doesn’t care about Black people and you just stood there looking stupid?” Myers responds the only way he can — with nervous energy and full-on panic.

From Politics to Punchlines: No Topic Is Off Limits

The skit didn’t stop at old news. It dove headfirst into West’s many recent controversies. From antisemitic comments to Diddy’s ongoing legal troubles, the fake Kanye steered the conversation in wild directions.

When Myers tries to ask what West has been doing lately, the reply is both shocking and satirical: “I’m in the KKK now.” And when West questions if “Myers” is a Jewish last name, the comedian freezes before nervously blurting out, “It’s Protestant.”

As the conversation spirals, the elevator breaks down. Myers, clearly distressed, shouts, “I’m claustrophobic!” To which Thompson’s West calmly responds, “I’m a few phobics myself.”

The best line of the night may have come when Myers suggests they try jumping to get the elevator moving again. “No man, I don’t like doing crazy stuff,” West deadpans.

The sketch ends with fake West offering Myers a bizarre but friendly farewell: “Take care of yourself, Shrek!”

The episode was already highly anticipated, thanks to Johansson’s return as host and the 50th season celebration. Fans were buzzing online with theories about major cast departures, especially from Colin Jost, but the night wrapped without any official announcements. Still, the abrupt end left many wondering what’s next.

If you missed it, do yourself a favor and rewatch this sketch. It’s the kind of bold comedy that only SNL could pull off, taking a deeply uncomfortable real-life moment and turning it into pure satire.
