A Colorado Springs man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he struck someone with a television and then tried to escape law enforcement in a wild chase that ended with his car in a ditch.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says 35-year-old Mason Buck is accused of throwing a TV at a person he knew, hitting them in the leg during an incident at a home in the Falcon Meadows neighborhood. Deputies were called to the scene early in the morning on July 14, arriving around 2:41 a.m. to investigate the report.
How the Chase Unfolded
By the time deputies arrived, investigators say Buck had already left the home and was spotted near the intersection of Woodmen Road and Golden Sage Road. When deputies tried to pull him over, authorities say he turned his vehicle around and sped off heading east on Woodmen. For safety reasons, deputies chose not to pursue him at that moment.
A short while later, law enforcement received word that Buck had been involved in a crash near Lambert Road and Park Gate Drive.
Because Buck was reportedly wearing a court-ordered ankle monitor, deputies were able to track his movements as he drove through an open field near Eatonville Road and Rex Road, apparently trying to shake off any pursuit.
Officers used that tracking information to get ahead of him, setting up a blockade along his route. According to the sheriff’s office, Buck attempted to drive around the blockade but ended up crashing his vehicle into a ditch. He then got out of the car and was taken into custody at the scene without further incident.
Charges and Custody Status
Buck now faces a lengthy list of criminal charges connected to the case, including second-degree assault, vehicular eluding, criminal mischief, second-degree criminal tampering, violation of a restraining order, and child abuse.
The presence of both a restraining order violation and a child abuse charge suggests the situation may have involved a protective order tied to a domestic relationship, though the sheriff’s office has not released additional details about the people involved.
Buck is currently being held at the El Paso County Jail and is not eligible for bond, meaning he will remain in custody at least until his case moves further through the court system.
The incident adds to a string of recent reports out of El Paso County involving vehicle pursuits and domestic-related violence.
No further updates on Buck’s court appearances have been released as of this report, and the sheriff’s office has not indicated whether additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
