Manager Shot After Dine-and-Dash Confrontation at Louisville Texas Roadhouse

A birthday celebration for a beloved restaurant manager turned into a scene of chaos and fear on Thursday evening after a shooting erupted inside a Texas Roadhouse in the Okolona neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky.

The incident, which left one man hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, has shaken both employees and the wider community.

Officers from Louisville Metro Police were dispatched to the restaurant at 3322 Old Outer Loop at approximately 6:11 p.m. following reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found an adult male who had been shot.

Emergency medical crews transported the victim, identified by coworkers as a manager named Dwight, to the University of Louisville Hospital. His injuries are considered non-life-threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery.

According to longtime server Stacey Tondre, the shooting stemmed from an earlier incident in which a customer had walked out of the restaurant without paying for his meal. That same customer returned to the establishment on Thursday, and when Dwight noticed him attempting to leave again without settling his bill, he followed the man toward the exit to confront him.

“As the guy’s exiting, Dwight is following behind him and telling him, hey, stop, you got to pay your bill,” Tondre recounted.

She said the man then turned around and shot him without warning. The moment gunfire rang out, employees and diners dropped to the floor, with some holding hands and praying while taking cover behind furniture.

What made the evening even more painful for staff was the fact that the entire team had gathered that night partly to celebrate Dwight’s birthday. The combination of a joyful occasion and sudden violence left employees visibly shaken and searching for answers.

“This was over a steak dinner,” Tondre said. “For the love of God, put the guns down.”

A Community Left Searching for Answers

The restaurant was temporarily cleared while police processed the scene and gathered evidence. In a testament to their dedication and solidarity, several employees voluntarily returned afterward to help with cleanup, knowing the restaurant was scheduled to open the following morning.

“We have to open in the morning,” Tondre said simply. “To make our people proud and to stand together, we came back to help finish cleaning up.”

Louisville Metro Police confirmed that a suspect was taken into custody, though no further details regarding the individual’s identity or formal charges have been publicly released. The department’s Non-Fatal Shooting Unit is now leading the investigation.

The incident has prompted renewed conversation about everyday violence in public spaces, particularly in restaurants and retail environments where employees routinely find themselves caught between enforcing basic policies and ensuring their own safety. For the staff at this Texas Roadhouse, Thursday night was a stark reminder of how quickly a routine evening can unravel.
