Buffalo Math Teacher Kevin Fritz Passes Away, Colleagues and Students Mourn the Loss

The Buffalo community is mourning the loss of Kevin Fritz, a beloved teacher and friend whose passing has left a deep void among students, colleagues, and everyone fortunate enough to have crossed his path.

Tributes pouring in from former coworkers and students paint the picture of a man who was far more than a classroom instructor. He was a mentor, a father figure, and a genuine human being who gave freely of himself without hesitation.

Fritz attended Bishop Timon St. Jude High School, graduating with the class of 1997. He went on to study at St. Bonaventure University before earning his mathematics degree from Buffalo State College.

He built his career in education in his hometown of Buffalo, New York, where he spent years teaching at Olmsted School. Those who worked alongside him describe someone who showed up every single day with a warmth that made the building feel different.

A Teacher Who Felt Like Family

Former coworker and close friend Angie Burgos shared a heartfelt tribute that captured what made Fritz so special to the people around him.

She recalled how he never once turned her down when she organized toy giveaways for children in need, even going out of his way to send toys when she was no longer working at the school. That kind of quiet generosity, done without fanfare or expectation of recognition, was simply who Kevin Fritz was.

“He never had a no for me,” Burgos wrote, adding that Fritz was an excellent teacher, coworker, and friend. She noted that the school will never quite be the same without him, and that while life is fragile, the people who truly touch your heart never really leave you.

Another former student, Daudi Moh, referred to Fritz as his Sensei and promised to carry forward the lessons he was taught. He called Fritz more than a teacher, describing him as someone who felt like a parent to many of the students he worked with.

That kind of bond between an educator and the people in his care does not happen by accident. It comes from consistency, patience, and a genuine investment in others that Fritz clearly had in abundance.

A Life That Will Not Be Forgotten

Kevin Fritz was a single man who lived his life rooted in Buffalo. He is survived by family members, including his aunt Kathy Lalley and cousin Miranda Ledyard.

The community he served and the people he touched have been reaching out across social media to share their memories and offer condolences to his family.

Angie Burgos has been collecting written messages from former coworkers and friends to compile into a notebook for his family, a gesture that reflects how deeply he was loved and how many lives he managed to change simply by being present and caring.

Kevin Fritz studied mathematics, taught it with dedication, and lived a life that added up to something meaningful.

The tributes from those who knew him speak not of a person who chased recognition but of someone who showed up, gave what he had, and made everyone around him feel seen. Buffalo lost a good one, and the people he touched will carry him forward.
