Nashville Man William Scott, 35, Dies After Motorcycle Slams Into Mercedes on Hermitage Avenue
A Nashville man lost his life Wednesday afternoon following a motorcycle crash on Hermitage Avenue that witnesses say was preceded by reckless driving.
William Scott, 35, was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical Center after sustaining fatal injuries in the collision, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.
The crash was reported at approximately 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in an area that has seen a troubling rise in fatal accidents this year.
The incident unfolded when Scott was traveling southbound on Hermitage Avenue aboard his Kawasaki ZX1 motorcycle and struck the driver’s side of a Mercedes sedan that was crossing Hermitage Avenue from Academy Place.
Scott was transported by emergency responders to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, one of the region’s leading trauma facilities. Despite medical efforts, he did not survive his injuries.
His death adds to a growing list of fatalities on Nashville roads in 2026, a trend that local law enforcement has publicly acknowledged and flagged as a serious concern.
Witnesses Describe Reckless Driving Before the Crash
Multiple witnesses present at the scene reportedly told responding officers that Scott had been driving recklessly and traveling at excessive speeds in the moments leading up to the crash.
Their accounts suggest the collision may have been preventable had speed limits and road safety protocols been observed.
Despite the severity of the crash and the eyewitness reports of erratic driving behavior, the MNPD confirmed that investigators found no evidence of impairment on the part of either driver involved.
Neither Scott nor the driver of the Mercedes sedan appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or any other substance at the time of the incident.
The driver of the Mercedes has not been identified in connection with any wrongdoing, and no charges have been publicly announced as of this reporting.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, and police have not released additional details about potential charges or the final determination of fault. MNPD has not indicated whether speed or road conditions will factor into any formal conclusions drawn from the preliminary investigation.
Fatal Crashes on the Rise in Nashville This Year
This tragedy comes at a time when Nashville officials and law enforcement have been sounding alarms about a spike in fatal crashes and pedestrian deaths across the city.
The MNPD has noted publicly that 2026 has already seen a disturbing uptick in road fatalities compared to previous years, prompting renewed calls for motorists to exercise caution, particularly on high-traffic corridors like Hermitage Avenue.
William Scott leaves behind a community mourning his loss and a city grappling with how to reverse a dangerous trend on its roads. No funeral arrangements have been publicly announced at this time.
Anyone with additional information about the crash is encouraged to contact the Metro Nashville Police Department.
