Stamford Businessman and Mayoral Candidate Nicola Tarzia, 62, Passes Away, Leaving His Loved Ones
The Stamford community is mourning the loss of Nicola “Nic” Tarzia, a lifelong resident who dedicated decades of his life to building a better city for those around him.
Born on March 10, 1963, Tarzia passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of civic engagement, entrepreneurship, and genuine love for his hometown.
A Life Built in Stamford
Tarzia was the embodiment of the American dream in the truest local sense. He built the Tarzia Group from the ground up, turning it into a recognized name in the Stamford business community. But for Nic, business was never the whole story.
He poured just as much energy into the city that shaped him, serving on the Stamford Board of Education and dedicating himself to organizations like SPEF, the Tarzia Foundation, and Dollars for Scholars.
These were not honorary positions for him. Those who knew him say he showed up, stayed engaged, and brought his full self to every cause he believed in.
His most recent chapter in public service came when he ran for Mayor of Stamford, a campaign that introduced him to even more residents across the city. Kindrea Walston, who met him during that campaign, remembered him as a genuinely positive presence.
“He was such a positive person,” she wrote. “I will miss our conversations and the laughter we shared.” That warmth was a theme repeated by nearly everyone who crossed paths with him.
A Community Left Grieving
The outpouring of tributes following news of his passing has been immediate and heartfelt. The Stamford Republicans, where Tarzia was a familiar face, shared the news with visible grief, describing him as someone who always had a smile and a passion for the people around him.
Dennis LoDolce, a fellow community figure, wrote that Tarzia was a longtime family friend and someone whose willingness to step up and serve others was genuinely inspiring.
“His commitment to public service was something I truly admired,” he said.
Bonnie Kim Campbell, who had campaigned alongside him, spoke of the deeper conversations they shared, describing him as tender and giving.
Others like Brian Dudek and David Robushi echoed similar sentiments, calling his death a shock and sending their condolences to the Tarzia family.
At just 62 years old, his passing has left many asking how someone so full of energy and purpose could be gone so soon. The community has not yet received details about the cause of death, with friends and neighbors expressing both grief and disbelief.
Nicola Tarzia was not a man who waited for others to take action. He saw needs in his community and met them.
He built something lasting through his business, gave back through his foundation work, shaped the next generation through his involvement in education, and stepped into the political arena not for personal gain but out of a sincere belief that Stamford deserved strong, engaged leadership.
For those who knew him, Nic Tarzia represented what local civic life can look like at its best. His memory will carry forward through the organizations he supported, the people he mentored, and the city he loved unconditionally.
May he rest in peace.
