Who Was Demartravion ‘Trey’ Reed? Delta State Student Found Dead on Campus

Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, was shaken when 21-year-old student Demartravion “Trey” Reed was found dead on campus. The discovery happened on Monday morning near the university’s pickleball courts.

Police confirmed the body was hanging from a tree and said they believed it was a case of suicide. Delta State police chief Michael L. Peeler noted that early observations showed no signs of foul play.

However, the Bolivar County coroner has not released an official cause of death. This has left many unanswered questions and sparked conversations beyond the campus.

The Discovery on Campus

University police were alerted around 7:05 a.m. and rushed to the scene. The news came as Delta State was preparing for its 100-year centennial celebrations.

Classes and festivities were immediately canceled as the university turned its focus to supporting students. The cancellation showed how seriously the administration took the tragedy.

Counselors were made available at the O.W. Reily Counseling Center. The school urged students and staff to seek support as the community processed the shocking loss.

Social Media and the Viral Video

Shortly after the body was found, a graphic video began circulating online. It appeared to show Reed at the scene, and it quickly spread across platforms.

The video angered many who felt it was disrespectful and invasive. Instead of answers, it created more confusion and fueled speculation.

Reed’s mother later issued a plea asking people to stop sharing the footage. She described it as a “living nightmare” for her family.

Allegations from Family Members

While police said no foul play was suspected, not everyone agreed. A TikTok user claiming to be Reed’s cousin made serious allegations.

The cousin said Reed had broken arms and a leg, raising doubts about suicide being the only explanation. They suggested his death could have been linked to violence.

They also pointed to Delta State’s history, saying the university had faced racial tensions in the past. These claims quickly spread and gained attention online.

University and Community Response

Delta State leaders expressed their condolences and called for compassion. They stressed that the investigation was ongoing and urged patience.

Local students and alumni began organizing vigils to honor Reed’s memory. The community wanted to show support for his family and to demand clarity.

Many also highlighted the need for stronger mental health resources on campus. The incident has pushed students to call for more transparency and care from university officials.

Remembering Trey Reed

Amid speculation, friends remember Trey as more than headlines. They describe him as kindhearted and full of ambition.

His death has left a deep void for classmates and loved ones. The university community has been united in grief since the news broke.

For his family, the focus remains on privacy and healing. They want Trey remembered for who he was, not the rumors surrounding his final moments.
