Taylor Swift’s upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl, out October 3, marks a big reunion with Swedish producer Shellback, alongside his longtime collaborator Max Martin. The trio last worked together on Swift’s 2017 album Reputation, and fans are buzzing about their return.

From Metal Guitarist to Pop Hitmaker
Born Karl Johan Schuster in Sweden, Shellback started his music career as a heavy metal guitarist before shifting to pop production and songwriting. He began working with Max Martin in 2007, and in 2012, Swift brought them in to co-write and produce “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” “I Knew You Were Trouble,” and “22” for Red. These tracks helped launch Swift’s transition from country to pop.

Shaping Swift’s Pop Era
Shellback and Martin played a major role in Swift’s 2014 pop breakthrough 1989, producing hits like “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space,” and “Style.” The album won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2016.
