Who Is Randy Travis Wife? All About Mary Davis & Their Family
When you hear the name Randy Travis, you probably think of that deep, soulful voice that gave us classics like “Forever and Ever, Amen” and “Three Wooden Crosses.” But behind the legendary country music star is a woman whose devotion and love have helped him weather the toughest storms life could throw. That woman is Mary Davis, Randy Travis’ wife since 2015, and the unsung hero of his remarkable recovery journey.
A Love Story Years in the Making
Mary Davis and Randy Travis go way back—30 years, to be exact—before their bond turned romantic. Both were living different lives, even married to other people at the time. Randy was previously married to his manager, Elizabeth “Lib” Travis, for 19 years before divorcing in 2010. Mary, on the other hand, was married to Dr. Ritchie Beougher, a well-known cosmetic dentist. Fate has a funny way of working, and eventually, their paths reconnected at just the right moment. The couple officially tied the knot on March 21, 2015, in a heartfelt ceremony officiated by Pastor Tommy Nelson.
Mary is now 65 years old (born in 1960) and has been Randy’s rock through his ups and downs. Together, they don’t have children, but Mary has kids from her previous marriage, whom Randy is very close to. Their blended family shares a deep bond rooted in love and resilience.
From Plano to the Spotlight
Mary grew up in Plano, Texas, a suburb north of Dallas. Her family moved there from Virginia in 1958, before Mary was born. “Plano is, from every aspect, a truly phenomenal city,” she once told D Magazine. A proud Texan through and through, Mary has seen Plano grow from a small town to a bustling city over the decades. She later went on to earn a degree in Business Marketing from Baylor University, graduating in 1981.
Her professional background in business and marketing may not have predicted the life she’d later lead—standing beside one of country music’s most celebrated voices—but it certainly prepared her for the many hats she would wear during Randy’s health battles.
A Life-Altering Stroke and a Testament of Love
In July 2013, tragedy struck. Randy suffered a massive stroke that left him unable to speak, sing, or even walk at first. Doctors warned Mary about the long and uncertain road ahead. Some even told her that Randy would likely be bedridden for life. But Mary wasn’t one to accept limits. “I don’t mind that … and I don’t believe it,” she told Rolling Stone in 2020, recalling her defiant stance.
The couple returned to their ranch in Tioga, Texas, in late 2013, ready to take on Randy’s recovery with full hearts and unwavering faith. “It was like somebody left the gate open and boy, we were going to go live life,” she said. Mary was there every step of the way, helping Randy relearn even the simplest things like using a TV remote or answering the phone.
Despite the challenges, she describes their communication as something special. “Our communication is between hearts now, and not lips,” she told PEOPLE in 2019. “In his silence, he can make me feel like a princess.”
A Constant Source of Strength
Mary has since become Randy’s voice—both figuratively and literally. In 2016, when Randy was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, Mary stood by his side and gave the acceptance speech on his behalf. “I don’t think he understands how important he has been to country music,” she shared at the time.
To this day, Mary accompanies Randy to major events, from CMA Fest meet-and-greets to red carpets at the People’s Choice Country Awards and the Grand Ole Opry. In May 2024, the couple even attended the 150th annual Kentucky Derby, smiling for photos before watching Mystik Dan take the win at Churchill Downs.
A Life Rooted in Faith and Simplicity
While their public appearances are inspiring, Mary and Randy find true peace at home on their ranch. Surrounded by horses, cows, and Texas sunsets, the couple enjoys the quiet beauty of country life. “We have wide open spaces and beautiful sunsets,” Mary said, describing their sanctuary.
Mary often credits their faith as the anchor that keeps them grounded. “There’s no way we could have gotten through what we got through without our faith,” she told Rolling Stone. “We leaned real hard on God. Every day we still do.”
The Quiet Hero
Mary Davis is more than just Randy Travis’ wife. She’s his partner, caregiver, advocate, and best friend. She’s the reason Randy is still showing up for his fans and living life on his own terms, despite the odds. As Mary puts it, Randy is no victim—he’s a warrior.
And honestly? So is she.
