Watch: Shakira Brings Out Black Eyed Peas for Surprise ‘Girl Like Me’ Performance in Los Angeles

Fans at Shakira’s Los Angeles concert were in for a huge surprise when she welcomed the Black Eyed Peas on stage for a live performance of their 2020 hit Girl Like Me. The electrifying moment took place during her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour stop, marking the first time they’ve performed the track together on this tour.

The Colombian superstar has been including Girl Like Me in her setlist regularly, but this is the first time she was joined by the original collaborators on stage. The song, which appears on the Black Eyed Peas’ 2020 album Translation, was a fan favorite when it first dropped — and seeing it come to life with all artists present brought the crowd to its feet.

But that wasn’t the only surprise of the night. Shakira also performed Men in This Town, a deep cut from her 2009 She Wolf album, live for the very first time — giving long-time fans a special treat.

Shakira’s world tour began in Brazil back in February and has been making its way across North America since May 13, when it launched in Charlotte, North Carolina. The tour hasn’t been without some bumps though. A planned stop at Fenway Park in Boston on May 29 was canceled, despite teases of appearances by Will.i.am and Wyclef Jean. She also had to withdraw from a scheduled performance at the WorldPride Welcome Concert in Washington, D.C., due to production delays.

Now continuing her tour in Los Angeles for a second night, Shakira will head to Mexico next, with shows scheduled throughout August and September. She’s also set to headline the Global Citizen Festival in New York City on September 27 — an annual charity concert that draws some of the biggest names in music.

Speaking about the tour earlier this summer, Shakira told Rolling Stone just how meaningful this run has been for her. “I learned that this is more than a show, this is a communion, an encounter with my most loyal fans and also my newest fans,” she said. “It’s really a moment of total identification. I didn’t want to save any effort, I didn’t want to save any resources to take the best show possible to Latin America, because I feel and I really truly believe that my people deserve the best.”

And if her L.A. concert is any indication, Shakira is certainly delivering on that promise.
