Trump Files $15 Billion Lawsuit Against New York Times Over ‘Decades of Lies’
US President Donald Trump has launched a new attack against the New York Times, accusing the newspaper of spreading lies and biased coverage for decades. In a fiery post on Truth Social, he announced a $15 billion defamation and libel lawsuit against what he described as “the worst and most degenerate newspaper” in American history.
Trump’s frustration was directed at the Times’ endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election. He argued the front-page endorsement was evidence of the outlet acting as a “mouthpiece for the radical left Democrat party.”
The announcement marked one of Trump’s boldest legal moves yet against the press. It also reignited the long-running feud between him and some of America’s most established media institutions.
Trump’s Claims on Truth Social
In his lengthy rant, Trump accused the New York Times of orchestrating a “decades long method of lying” about him, his family, and the America First movement. He called their coverage a form of malicious defamation that had damaged his image.
“Today, I have the Great Honor of bringing a $15 Billion Dollar Defamation and Libel Lawsuit against The New York Times,” Trump wrote. He claimed the paper’s reporting had essentially become an illegal campaign contribution to Democrats.
He compared this legal battle to previous lawsuits, noting that other networks had settled over false claims. Trump insisted this suit would hold the Times accountable for smearing him and misleading the American people.
The Kamala Harris Endorsement
Trump singled out the Times’ endorsement of Kamala Harris in the 2024 race as one of the latest examples of bias. He said the decision showed the paper was “all in” for Democrats and no longer operated as an objective news outlet.
He claimed such coverage contributed to a media environment stacked against him. According to Trump, it was further proof of the mainstream press abandoning fairness in favor of politics.
The endorsement, which dominated the Times’ front page, is still being cited by Trump supporters as evidence of partisan journalism. Critics, however, argue that newspaper endorsements are a long-standing practice.
Epstein Controversy Adds Tension
The lawsuit also came just days after the New York Times reported Trump’s alleged involvement with Jeffrey Epstein. The paper cited documents released by Congress, which included suggestive birthday notes allegedly written by Trump to Epstein.
The White House strongly denied the allegations, dismissing the letters as “fabrication.” Trump himself said the reporting was nothing more than another smear campaign.
By linking the lawsuit to these reports, Trump suggested the paper had crossed a legal line with their accusations. He argued that enough was enough, and the courts were the proper place to settle it.
Social Media and Political Fallout
Reactions to Trump’s lawsuit announcement were immediate. Supporters praised him for standing up to what they see as dishonest media. They argued the lawsuit was long overdue and necessary for accountability.
Critics, however, said the lawsuit was another publicity move aimed at intimidating journalists. Legal experts noted that defamation suits against major news outlets are often difficult to win.
Regardless of the outcome, Trump’s lawsuit has already reignited debates about press freedom, political bias, and the ongoing clash between the president and mainstream media.
