Sullivan’s Crossing Season 3 Finale: That Shocking Twist and What’s Next for Maggie and Cal
The drama at Sullivan’s Crossing just hit a whole new level.
Based on Robyn Carr’s bestselling novels, the hit series follows Boston neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan) as she returns to her hometown in Nova Scotia after legal troubles derail her career. There, she reconnects with her estranged father, Harry “Sully” Sullivan (Scott Patterson), and slowly builds a romance with Cal Jones (Chad Michael Murray), the charming handyman at her dad’s campground.
Season 3 kept the push-and-pull between Maggie and Cal going strong — and in the finale, viewers got a twist no one saw coming.
How Season 3 Ended
The finale began on a happy note, with Rob Shandon (Reid Price) reopening his rebuilt restaurant after losing it at the end of season 2. The whole town turned out to celebrate — but the night took a turn when Maggie’s past walked through the door.
As Maggie and Cal left the party, they were stopped by Liam Davies (Marcus Rosner), a man Maggie once described as just a “summer fling.” But Liam dropped a bombshell, greeting her with, “Is that any way to greet your husband?”
The shocking revelation left Maggie speechless and Cal demanding answers. The episode ended on Maggie’s stunned face, setting up major drama for season 4.
What This Means for Maggie and Cal
Before Liam’s arrival, Maggie seemed to have finally found balance between her medical career and her life in Timberlake. She told Cal she planned to stay and open her own practice in town, hinting at a fresh start together.
But the surprise marriage revelation has thrown everything into question. Fans are left wondering why Maggie never told Cal, whether her father knew, and what this twist means for the couple’s future.
Edna’s Health Battle
Season 3 also saw Edna Cranebear (Andrea Menard) facing a serious health crisis as she gradually lost her eyesight. Doctors discovered a benign brain tumor causing her vision loss, leaving her with two difficult options — leave it and risk further health issues, or undergo a risky surgery.
Edna chose the operation, but only if Maggie performed it. In a tense and emotional sequence, Maggie successfully removed the tumor, and Edna was later shown fully recovered and enjoying life with her husband, Frank (Tom Jackson).
Sully and Helen’s New Chapter
Another big change came for Sully, who found love this season with writer Helen Culver (Kate Vernon). In the finale, he revealed he would be joining her on an extended trip to Ireland, leaving Maggie and Cal in charge of running Sullivan’s Crossing.
This marks major growth for Sully, but it’s unclear how his absence will affect season 4.
Season 4 is Official
Fans can rest easy — Sullivan’s Crossing has been renewed for a fourth season. CTV confirmed the news in June 2025, and Robyn Carr celebrated the announcement on Instagram.
While a premiere date hasn’t been announced, season 4 is expected to follow the same pattern as previous seasons — airing first on CTV in Canada and The CW in the U.S., before arriving on Netflix, where all three current seasons are streaming now.
With a surprise husband, a recovering Edna, and Sully off to Ireland, the next season promises plenty more small-town drama.
