Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Delayed Again, Fans Left Hanging

It’s happening again. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, easily one of the most anticipated animated films of the decade, just got another release date bump. Sony Pictures has officially pushed the film’s premiere to June 25, 2027, a shift from its previous June 4 release. That might not sound like much, but for fans who’ve been waiting since 2023’s Across the Spider-Verse, every extra week feels like a year.

Why is Spider-Man always running late these days?

Let’s rewind a bit. Originally, Beyond the Spider-Verse was supposed to land in theaters March 29, 2024. That date came and went after Hollywood was hit by the massive writers and actors strikes. Sony had no choice but to pull it from the schedule entirely. After months of silence, we finally got a new window: June 4, 2027. Now that’s pushed again. Just three weeks later, sure, but still a delay.

Why the shuffle? According to insiders talking to The Hollywood Reporter, it’s all about timing. Late June means kids are out of school, more families are free, and international audiences also tend to turn out more in that window. It’s a summer blockbuster sweet spot.

Plus, co-writer Christopher Miller chimed in on social media, pointing out something fans might’ve missed. The new date gives the film a better shot at a prime IMAX slot, which could mean a more immersive experience when it finally hits the big screen.

Will the wait be worth it?

Here’s what makes this sting a little more. We’re now looking at over four years between Across the Spider-Verse and Beyond the Spider-Verse. That’s a long stretch in a franchise that thrives on momentum. Some of that delay is due to creative ambitions, but a lot of it was unavoidable chaos from the strikes and Sony’s packed calendar of Spider-Man-related projects.

Still, fans have stuck around. The previous two films set a gold standard for animation and storytelling. With Into the Spider-Verse now streaming on Fubo and FXNOW, and Across the Spider-Verse on Disney+ and Fubo too, the hype hasn’t gone anywhere.

We just have to hang on a little longer.
