Spaceballs Sequel 2027: Bill Pullman, Rick Moranis & Keke Palmer Return
Spaceballs fans, get ready for some exciting news. Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis are coming back to play Lone Starr and Dark Helmet again in the new Spaceballs movie. This is a big deal because Moranis hasn’t been on screen much in decades. The movie is being made by Amazon MGM Studios, and they’re keeping a lot under wraps, including the story and Keke Palmer’s role. Palmer, known for her work in One of Them Days, is joining the cast, which adds fresh energy to this classic comedy.
What makes this sequel even more special is that Mel Brooks, the original film’s director and star, is also returning as Yogurt. The film is set to hit theaters in 2027, and it’s being described as a mix of sequel and reboot with new twists. Josh Greenbaum, who directed Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, is directing this one. The script comes from Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad, who is also expected to act and produce.
Spaceballs: The Original Cult Classic
For those who might not know, Spaceballs came out in 1987 and is a hilarious take on the sci-fi world. It pokes fun at Star Wars and other famous movies like 2001: A Space Odyssey. The story follows the evil Dark Helmet and President Skroob as they try to steal the air from a peaceful planet called Druidia. Lone Starr, with his funny sidekick Barf and the princess Vespa, try to stop them. The original cast also had John Candy, Joan Rivers, and Dick Van Patten. Even though the movie only made about $38 million worldwide, it became a cult favorite over time.
Bill Pullman, who plays Lone Starr, has been busy with shows like The Sinner and movies such as The High Note and Dark Waters. He also has some exciting projects coming up, including a Netflix series by the Duffer Brothers called The Boroughs and a movie called Famous with Zac Efron.
Rick Moranis’s Return to the Screen
Rick Moranis is one of those actors who made a big mark in the 80s and 90s. He was in hits like Ghostbusters, Little Shop of Horrors, and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. He also got his start in comedy on the Canadian show SCTV. But Moranis stepped away from acting mostly in the late 90s to focus on raising his kids after his wife passed away. So seeing him come back as Dark Helmet is a real treat for fans. His last big on-screen moment was a funny Mint Mobile ad with Ryan Reynolds in 2020.
Fresh Talent Joins the Cast
Keke Palmer is the fresh face in this cast, and she’s been making waves lately. She starred in One of Them Days, a buddy comedy with SZA, and that movie’s sequel is already in the works. She also has several new projects coming up, including The Pickup with Eddie Murphy, a comedy called Good Fortune by Aziz Ansari, and I Love Boosters directed by Boots Riley. Adding her to the Spaceballs world brings a new flavor to the classic story.
Lewis Pullman, Bill Pullman’s son, is also joining in an undisclosed role. He’s a rising star who appeared in Thunderbolts, and this will be a big chance for him to shine in a beloved franchise.
The new Spaceballs movie promises to mix the old and new. With the original cast coming back and fresh stars joining, it looks like fans will get a fun and wild ride when it hits theaters in 2027.
