Shakira, Jason Aldean Shows at Fenway Park Cancelled – Here’s What Really Happened

If you were planning to head to Fenway Park this week for Shakira or Jason Aldean, well, you’re not alone in being totally bummed out. Both concerts were canceled out of the blue, and fans are not happy.

What We Know So Far

Live Nation dropped the news late Wednesday. The official statement said, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Shakira and Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn performances originally scheduled for May 29th and May 30th respectively at Fenway Park have been canceled.”

Refunds are available at the point of purchase. You can check the original announcement on Live Nation’s site or check their latest on X/Twitter.

But they didn’t give any specific reason. Just “unforeseen circumstances.” Not super helpful when folks have been planning, buying outfits, booking hotels, and hyping these shows for weeks. Shakira even posted less than a day before the show, all excited to perform in Boston. “Boston I’m coming! Will.I.am and Wycleff tomorrow! I can’t ask for more!!” she wrote on X.

Then boom. Cancelled.

Shakira’s Tour Already Had Bumps

This isn’t the first hiccup on her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour. Earlier in the tour, her shows in Lima and Medellín were called off too. In Lima, she reportedly had an abdominal issue and needed medical care. Then in Medellín, the stage roof was damaged, and safety became a big concern.

So it’s not totally surprising. But it still stings.

Jason Aldean Fans Are Shook Too

Jason Aldean was supposed to take the stage Friday with Brooks & Dunn as part of his Full Throttle tour. He didn’t say much, but he did retweet the cancelation notice from Fenway. Some fans weren’t taking it well.

One posted on X: “Can Jason Aldean bring his own stage or something please we have 24 hours to fix this.” Another said, “What a disappointment.” And a third? “Why does this happen all the time with the big performers?”

I mean, for real. We all know parking in Boston is a nightmare and drinks inside Fenway are like 20 bucks. But still, the vibe of a summer concert at Fenway is unbeatable. It’s one of those bucket-list things. And now, two of the biggest nights? Gone.

What Could’ve Caused It?

Local news outlets are whispering about stage safety issues. Maybe something wasn’t stable enough. Maybe the setup wasn’t ready. But again, no confirmation yet. Just a lot of speculation.

The Fenway Concert Series is still on for the rest of the summer though. Acts like The Lumineers, Hozier, Chris Brown, and My Chemical Romance are still scheduled through September. But now folks are wondering… are more shows gonna get the axe too?

If you had plans this week, just know you weren’t the only one scrambling. And if you’re a local like me, you’re probably wondering what to do with those free nights now. Maybe hit up the Lansdowne Street bars anyway and pretend we’re still headed to a show.
