Ryan Kiera Armstrong Cast as Lead in Hulu’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot
The next generation of slayers has officially arrived. Hulu’s highly anticipated reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer has found its new star: Ryan Kiera Armstrong. The young actress will take on the lead role in the reboot’s pilot episode, stepping into the legendary world of vampire hunting with Sarah Michelle Gellar returning in a recurring role as Buffy.
The project, first announced in February, is set to explore a new chapter in the Buffy universe. While plot details remain secret, sources have confirmed that Armstrong’s character will be a brand-new slayer, carrying on the legacy while Gellar’s Buffy guides her from the shadows.
Sarah Michelle Gellar Welcomes Armstrong to the Buffy Legacy
Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played Buffy Summers in the original TV series from 1997 to 2003, had high praise for Armstrong’s audition. Sharing a heartfelt message, Gellar said, “From the moment I saw Ryan’s audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side. To have that kind of emotional intelligence and talent at such a young age is truly a gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room.”
Gellar also posted a touching video on Instagram where she surprises Armstrong with the news that she got the role. The moment has already captured fans’ hearts, signaling a strong emotional connection between the two actresses.
The reboot is being written and showrun by Nora and Lila Zuckerman, who will also executive produce. Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao is attached to direct the pilot and executive produce under her Book of Shadows production company. Gellar joins as executive producer alongside original Buffy veterans Gail Berman, Fran and Kaz Kuzui, and Dolly Parton through her Sandollar production banner.
20th Television and Searchlight Television are behind the project, giving it a mix of classic and modern creative power.
