Plantation High School Alum Albert Humphrey, 39, Killed After SUV Makes Sudden U-Turn on State Road 7
Royal Palm Beach, Fla. — A Royal Palm Beach man lost his life Saturday night after his motorcycle slammed into the back of an SUV that had abruptly made a U-turn directly in his path on State Road 7.
Albert Humphrey, 39, known to friends and family as “Gino,” was pronounced dead at St. Mary’s Medical Center at 10:10 p.m., leaving behind a community in grief.
The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of State Road 7 and Victoria Groves Boulevard. According to a crash report released by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Humphrey was riding his Suzuki motorcycle southbound on SR 7 when a BMW SUV made a U-turn from the northbound lanes, swinging into the southbound lanes directly ahead of him.
With no time to react, the front of his motorcycle struck the rear of the SUV with tremendous force, ejecting Humphrey more than 200 feet before he came to rest on the roadway.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responded and treated Humphrey at the scene before rushing him to St. Mary’s Medical Center. Despite their efforts, he did not survive. He had been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The driver of the SUV was treated for minor injuries.
A Community Left Heartbroken
News of Humphrey’s death spread quickly through social media, where friends and those who knew him flooded posts with condolences and tributes.
One friend, Mocha Pierre-Charles, wrote that she was in disbelief and that her heart was broken, sending prayers to his family and especially to his mother.
Others who knew him described him as a good person. “May he rest in paradise, hell of a good guy,” one commenter wrote. The NABSTMC motorcycle community also offered their condolences, reflecting what appeared to be Humphrey’s deep connection to the riding world.
Humphrey was originally from Fort Lauderdale, where he attended Plantation High School. He had been living in Royal Palm Beach at the time of the crash.
His Facebook profile showed he had more than 600 followers and a wide social circle, with dozens of friends and community members reacting to the news of his passing within hours.
Questions About Driver Responsibility
The circumstances of the crash raise serious questions about the U-turn that preceded it. Investigators from PBSO are continuing to look into the incident, though no arrests or charges have been publicly announced as of Sunday.
U-turns on busy multilane roads like State Road 7, particularly at night, are among the more dangerous maneuvers a driver can make, leaving oncoming motorists with little to no time to respond.
SR 7 is a heavily traveled corridor through Palm Beach County, and the stretch near Victoria Groves Boulevard is no exception. Nighttime conditions and high speeds make crashes on roads like this particularly devastating.
Humphrey’s death is part of a continuing pattern of fatal motorcycle crashes across South Florida that has drawn growing concern from safety advocates and law enforcement alike.
For those who knew Albert Humphrey, none of that context softens what was lost Saturday night. “Gino” was a son, a friend, and by all accounts someone who will be deeply missed.
