Peter Dinklage Stars in Wild Reboot of The Toxic Avenger
Get ready for something loud, gory, and totally off-the-wall. The Toxic Avenger is back, and this time, it’s bigger, weirder, and starring Peter Dinklage. Yes, really.
UK and Irish fans won’t have to wait long. Signature Entertainment just picked up the rights and plans to release the film in theaters on August 29.
A Cult Classic Gets a Twisted Makeover
The original Toxic Avenger came out in 1984 and quickly earned cult status. It had everything — radioactive goo, over-the-top violence, and a hero with a mop. It was weird in the best way possible.
Now, director Macon Blair is giving the franchise a fresh coat of, well, slime. And he’s not holding back. This reboot keeps the chaotic energy of the original but gives it a sharp new edge.
Peter Dinklage Takes the Lead
Peter Dinklage plays the unlucky janitor who gets transformed into the mop-wielding mutant hero. He’s not your typical superhero. He’s not rich. He’s not suave. But after a terrible accident, he’s all-powerful, seriously ticked off, and ready to clean up the streets — literally.
And he’s not alone. The cast is stacked with stars. Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood, Julia Davis, and Luisa Guerreiro all bring something wild to the screen.
What’s the Story This Time?
The story follows a janitor who suffers a shocking accident that mutates his body but gives him strange powers. With his trusty mop, he takes on creepy gangsters, grotesque villains, and power-hungry CEOs.
All this while trying to hold on to the most important thing in his life — his son. Yeah, there’s a surprising heart behind all the chaos.
The Brains Behind the Madness
The film was written by Macon Blair, Lloyd Kaufman, and Joe Ritter. Kaufman, the original creator, is back as a producer, alongside Michael Herz from Troma Entertainment. Legendary Pictures also joins the project with Alex Garcia and Mary Parent producing.
It’s clear the film has serious love for the original, but it’s also not afraid to try something bold and bonkers.
From Festivals to the Big Screen
The film already made a splash at genre festivals. It had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest, followed by screenings at Beyond Fest and Sitges. Fans of horror, comedy, and straight-up madness were all talking.
Now it’s the UK and Ireland’s turn.
Signature Entertainment Is All In
Katie Wilkinson-Javes from Signature Entertainment is pumped. She called the film “super entertaining” and full of “pure cinema madness.” She’s right. This isn’t your average reboot.
And with Peter Dinklage at the center of it, audiences are in for something special. Gritty, gross, and totally fun.
Mark your calendars. The Toxic Avenger hits theaters August 29. And yes, the mop is still part of the action.
