LAPD Investigates Human Remains Found in Car Registered to Singer D4vd
The Los Angeles Police Department has launched a death investigation after human remains were discovered in a car linked to rising musician D4vd. The decomposing body was found inside the trunk of a Tesla that had been abandoned in the Hollywood Hills and later towed to a lot in Hollywood.
The case has quickly drawn attention, not only because of the gruesome discovery, but also because of the car’s registered owner: David Anthony Burke, known professionally as D4vd, a 20-year-old singer-songwriter currently performing on a world tour.
Here is what is known, and not yet known, about the ongoing investigation.
How the Discovery Was Made
Shortly after 12:30 p.m. PT on Monday, September 8, LAPD officers responded to Hollywood Tow on North Mansfield Avenue after an employee reported a foul odor coming from a vehicle.
Upon inspection, officers located a plastic bag in the front trunk of the black Tesla. Inside were human remains in an advanced state of decomposition. The L.A. County Medical Examiner’s Office was called to the scene but was unable to immediately determine the identity or gender of the deceased because of the condition of the body.
The case has been classified as a death investigation, and authorities have not yet released details about possible foul play.
Details About the Vehicle
According to KABC and TMZ, the Tesla is a 2023 model registered in Hempstead, Texas, to musician D4vd. The car was bearing Texas plates when it was discovered.
Investigators said the vehicle had been abandoned in the Hollywood Hills for about five days before being towed to the impound lot. Detectives believe the body may have been inside the vehicle the entire time.
The tow yard had possession of the Tesla for several days before employees noticed the odor and contacted police. LAPD has since taken the car into evidence as part of the investigation.
Who Is D4vd?
D4vd, whose full name is David Anthony Burke, has quickly risen in the music industry with viral hits such as Romantic Homicide and Here With Me. Both tracks have surpassed one billion streams on Spotify.
The young artist is currently in the middle of his Withered World Tour, which began earlier this year. His most recent performance was on Sunday, September 7, in Madison, Wisconsin, and he is scheduled to perform in Minneapolis on Tuesday night.
The singer has not issued any public statements about the discovery. His social media remains active, with posts promoting an upcoming album release later this month.
What Remains Unknown
Authorities have not confirmed the identity of the deceased, nor have they released any connection between the remains and the vehicle’s registered owner. It is also unclear whether D4vd had recently been in Los Angeles or had any involvement with the abandoned Tesla.
The Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct further testing, including DNA and dental analysis, to establish the victim’s identity. LAPD detectives are also reviewing surveillance footage from the area where the car was abandoned.
Until more is known, the case remains a mystery. For now, police are treating it as a death investigation rather than a homicide, but that classification could change as evidence emerges.
What Happens Next
The LAPD is expected to release additional details in the coming days as the investigation develops. Meanwhile, D4vd’s tour schedule remains unchanged, with upcoming stops across North America before the final show in Los Angeles at the end of September.
Fans and the public alike are waiting for clarity on how a car tied to a rising star in music became the site of such a disturbing discovery. The answers may take time, but the case has already raised difficult questions about the intersection of fame, safety, and the unexpected.
