Lakeland, Florida Girl Arya Witmer Dies Suddenly, Bartow Youth Baseball and Sanctify Martial Arts Team Dedicate Games to Young Athlete

The Witmer family of Lakeland, Florida, is grieving the sudden and unexpected passing of their young daughter, Arya Witmer, whose death has sent waves of sorrow through the tight-knit community she called home.

Friends, coaches, teammates, and neighbors have rallied around the family in the days since her passing, flooding social media with memories that paint a picture of a child full of life, laughter, and an infectious spirit that drew people to her naturally.

Arya’s father, Eric Witmer, shared a heartfelt message acknowledging the overwhelming outpouring of love the family has received.

He wrote that they read every kind message and feel every prayer sent their way, noting that the support often feels undeserving despite their deep gratitude.

“Arya brightened our world more than we ever thought possible,” he said, “and the hole left in our hearts and lives will never be the same.”

A Familiar Face at the Ball Field and Beyond

To many in the Bartow Youth Baseball community, Arya was a fixture at the park. She spent countless days and nights running around the fields, cheering on her siblings and cousins, riding scooters with friends, and simply being the kind of joyful presence that makes a place feel alive.

Bartow Youth Baseball released a statement calling the ball field a second home to her and expressed that her loss is deeply felt throughout their entire baseball community. The organization set up a Meal Train donation page to help the family during this incredibly difficult time.

Outside of baseball, Arya had also found a home on the softball field. Marie Gonzalez, a fellow softball parent, recalled sitting with Arya at games, the little girl climbing onto her lap to chat and laugh.

She remembered Arya’s love of McDonald’s sausage McMuffins and her enthusiasm for discussing martial arts. On a blazing hot day, the two of them sat together with their legs dipped in a cooler, laughing through the heat. It is the kind of small, simple memory that those who knew her say perfectly captured who she was.

A Community Wrapping Its Arms Around a Grieving Family

Arya was also a member of Sanctify, a martial arts team, where coach Nick Barrett described her as a wonderful teammate, student, and athlete whose joy shone through her smile every time she walked through the doors.

The team announced they would dedicate their upcoming tournament in Lakeland entirely to her memory.

Friends and community members have shared stories of Arya following older kids around like a little shadow, running up to a boy at school to declare him her boyfriend before sprinting away laughing, and always welcoming newcomers with a warmth beyond her years.

Her uncle, Robert Jacob Dwyer, described her as the most active, fun-loving, creative, and kind kid he had ever known, sharing that she left without warning overnight.

The family continues to navigate their grief surrounded by a community that clearly refuses to let them face it alone. Meals, donations, prayers, and acts of kindness continue to pour in from every direction.

Arya Witmer may have been young, but the mark she left on Lakeland will not fade quickly. She is deeply missed.
