Kevin Costner Retirement Update: No Plans to Slow Down at 70 | CBA
Kevin Costner is not ready to slow down. Even at 70, retirement is not on his mind. In fact, he’s already diving deep into his next big creative dream. He recently told People magazine, “I don’t even think about retiring, because I’ll just move to the next thing that captures my imagination.” That pretty much sums up Costner’s way of living and working. He’s not following rules or timelines. He’s following his gut.
For Kevin, imagination is the boss. Not some studio or producer. He said, “Imagination is what determines what I do, not a boss.” That tells us a lot about how he chooses projects. He’s driven by passion, not pressure.
He’s also grateful for everything he’s experienced. “I’ve felt really lucky in my life,” he said. But he also knows luck isn’t everything. He added, “I’d like to think that I worked for all of it, but not everybody can live by the same blueprint.” His journey has been a mix of hard work, timing, and making bold choices.
Let’s take a quick ride through Costner’s incredible career. He broke out in the late ‘80s with movies like The Untouchables and Bull Durham. But it was Dances with Wolves that took things to another level. Not only did he star in it, but he also directed it. And he nailed both roles. The film won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. That movie stamped Kevin Costner as not just a Hollywood star but a true storyteller.
Fast forward to recent years. Costner became a household name again with Yellowstone. As John Dutton, he gave fans a rough and rugged cowboy leader they couldn’t get enough of. But despite the show’s success, he eventually walked away. He revealed that Yellowstone was originally planned as just one season. Over time, it expanded and the demanding schedule clashed with his other plans. So he stepped aside. Not because he wanted to stop. But because he had more to create elsewhere.
That “elsewhere” is now called Horizon: An American Saga. It’s a multi-part Western series that he’s directing and acting in. It’s a dream project for him. This isn’t a small side film. It’s a huge story told in several parts, set in the American West. It shows how deep his love is for this genre and for big storytelling.
Kevin’s personal life has also seen plenty of changes. Born in 1955 in California, he’s been married twice. He has seven kids. His first wife, Cindy Silva, is the mother of three of them: Annie, Lily, and Joe. He also has a son, Liam, with Bridget Rooney. Later, he married Christine Baumgartner and had three more children: Cayden, Hayes, and Grace. That marriage ended in 2024.
Even with ups and downs, Costner keeps creating. Keeps pushing forward. No retirement plans. Just more stories to tell.
