Kelsey Grammer to Become a Dad Again at 70 — Family, Growth & Second Chances
Kelsey Grammer is about to welcome another little one into his big, blended family — and at 70, he’s doing it with a whole new mindset. The Frasier and Cheers star is expecting his eighth child with wife Kayte Walsh, and though the couple hasn’t released a formal statement, recent photos from London make it pretty obvious. Kayte was seen glowing in a loose black dress, her baby bump gently showing, while Kelsey walked beside her in a relaxed polo and white shorts.
This new addition will be the fourth child for Kelsey and Kayte, who are already raising Faith (12), Gabriel (10), and James (8). For Kelsey, this makes eight kids in total. He also shares Spencer (41) with his first wife Doreen Alderman, Greer (33) with former girlfriend Barrie Buckner, and Mason (23) and Jude (20) from his marriage to Camille Grammer.
How has fatherhood changed for Kelsey over the years?
In a recent sit-down with People, Kelsey got real about the ups and downs of fatherhood. He admitted something most public figures might avoid: he wasn’t always the best dad, especially to his older kids. “I have neglected a couple of the kids in my life, especially the first two,” he said, reflecting with honesty. “I’m trying to make up for a little of it now. I’m still their dad, so you can always have [a] chance to show up.”
That line — “you can always have a chance to show up” — really hits home. It’s never too late to repair relationships, and Kelsey seems determined to do just that. With his younger children, he says he’s more present, more intentional, and clearer about expectations.
He’s focused on the basics: doing their studies, showing up, and navigating life with kindness and purpose. “I’m pretty tolerant with the young ones,” he shared, “but I’m clear about how there’s certain expectations.”
Will his kids follow his Hollywood path?
Interestingly, a few of his children are showing interest in the entertainment industry. Kelsey says he’s never pushed them into it, but he supports their passion. “To think that all my kids… are drawn to this industry,” he said with pride. His wife Kayte even reminded him, “That’s something to be proud of.”
But he’s not blind to the downsides. Carrying the Grammer last name brings both opportunity and judgment. Kelsey understands that double-edged sword. Fame can open doors, but it can also bring pressure that not every kid wants.
Still, he seems to be handling this next phase of fatherhood with grace, humor, and a lot more self-awareness than before. Being a dad at 70 might not be the usual route, but for Kelsey Grammer, it’s a chance to show up stronger and be the kind of father he always wanted to be.
His family’s still growing, and so is he.
