Joe Montana’s Sideline Phone Call to Wife Has Fans Saying ‘That’s Husband Material’
NFL legend Joe Montana is well known for his clutch passes, Super Bowl wins, and calm under pressure — but a recently resurfaced interview has reminded fans that he’s also a devoted husband with a heart of gold.
The 69-year-old former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, who led his team to four Super Bowl titles, revealed a romantic moment from his playing days during an interview with NFL Films that has now gone viral.
The Sweet Sideline Surprise
In the interview, Montana shared that during a game, he picked up a sideline phone out of curiosity and ended up doing something that would melt hearts decades later.
“I don’t know what made me do it,” Montana recalled. “But one day I’d hung up and I’m sittin’ there goin’, ‘Hmmm, I wonder if these things call out.’ So I pick up the phone and I hit 9, got a dial tone, I called my house.”
The clip then cuts to his wife, Jennifer Montana, who smiles warmly and recalls the call.
“He goes, ‘I’m calling you to say I love you.’”
It turns out, this wasn’t a one-time thing. Montana made it a habit to check for outbound phones in different stadiums, hoping he could call Jennifer from the sidelines and tell her he loved her — even in the middle of high-pressure NFL games.
Fans React With Pure Joy
Social media was quick to respond with love and admiration.
“She’s absolutely glowing. That’s the type of man to marry, ladies,” one fan commented.
Another added, “This is so sweet. I love them together.”
Still Winning Off the Field
Joe and Jennifer Montana have now been married for 39 years, and their love story continues to inspire fans old and new. Though Montana retired from professional football in 1995, he remains a beloved figure in NFL history — not just for his skills on the field, but for moments like these that show his heart.
It’s clear that Joe Montana wasn’t just a great quarterback. He’s also the kind of partner who finds a way to say “I love you” — even from the sidelines.
