Jason Voorhees New Look Revealed for Expanding Jason Universe

The horror world just got a fresh jolt of fear. Horror, Inc. has finally revealed the official new look for Jason Voorhees, and fans of the Friday the 13th franchise have a lot to talk about. This updated version of the iconic slasher isn’t just for one movie or show. It’s the centerpiece of something much bigger: a full-on multi-platform expansion called the “Jason Universe.”

So, what does Jason look like now? The design, revealed exclusively by Adweek, goes back to his roots. It pulls from the classic imagery fans know well, but adds some modern polish. His legendary hockey mask is back, now updated to a 13-hole version, and the overall look gives Jason a towering, brutal presence that reminds us why he’s a symbol of fear across generations.

Who Created This New Look?

The updated design was crafted in collaboration with none other than Greg Nicotero. If you’re into horror, you’ve probably seen his work without even realizing it. He’s a special effects master who’s worked on more than 400 projects, including The Walking Dead, Day of the Dead, and Predators. Nicotero is known for bringing characters to life in gritty, realistic ways, and he brings the same energy to Jason’s new form.

This time around, the goal wasn’t to make Jason unrecognizable. In fact, it was the opposite. Horror, Inc. wanted to keep Jason’s core identity intact. According to Rob Barsamian, president of Horror, Inc., the team wanted to maintain Jason’s “original essence” while shaping a more defined and future-ready version of the killer. The result? A Jason that feels classic but ready for modern storytelling.

Why Is Jason Getting a Revamp Now?

The timing isn’t random. 2025 marks the 45th anniversary of Friday the 13th, and the franchise is still going strong. To celebrate the milestone, Horror, Inc. is launching the “Jason Universe.” This new branding doesn’t just mean a movie reboot. It means a wide range of content is on the way—movies, video games, collectibles, immersive fan experiences, and even TV shows like the upcoming Crystal Lake series from A24 and Peacock.

The horror icon is being reborn for a new generation, and this new look will be the standard across every platform. Whether you’re playing a Jason game or watching a new show, this version of Jason is the one you’ll see.

What Does the Jason Universe Include?

The Jason Universe is not a simple remake or sequel. It’s a full relaunch of the Friday the 13th world with multiple projects in the works. According to Sheri Conn, chief marketing officer at Horror, Inc., the goal is to “actively develop a slate under the Jason Universe banner.” That includes:

  • New films
  • Video games
  • Collectibles and toys
  • Interactive experiences
  • TV series

What’s more exciting is that the creators are listening to fans. They’re not throwing out what worked before. Instead, they’re building on it.
