Grammy-winning musician Jack White has launched a scathing attack on US President Donald Trump, branding him “an orange grifter” and accusing his administration of being “petty and thin-skinned.”
The former White Stripes frontman, best known for the 2003 hit Seven Nation Army, made the remarks on Wednesday (August 20) after the White House hit back at him in unusually sharp terms.
How It Started
The row began earlier this week when White mocked Trump’s redecoration of the Oval Office, which was filled with gold-themed decor during his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Sharing a photo of the setting, White wrote:
“Look at how disgusting Trump has transformed the historic White House. It’s now a vulgar, gold-leafed, gaudy professional wrestler’s dressing room. Can’t wait for the UFC match on the front lawn too, he’s almost fully achieved the movie Idiocracy.”
In response, White House communications director Steven Cheung fired back on Monday (August 18), telling The Independent that White was “masquerading as a real artist” and dismissing him as a “has-been loser.”
White’s Furious Reply
White quickly doubled down. In a fiery social media post, he accused Trump of “masquerading as a human being, as a Christian, as a leader, as a person with actual empathy.” He mocked the White House insult, saying:
“‘Masquerading as a real artist’? Thank you for giving me my tombstone engraving!”
The musician went on to accuse Trump of wasting taxpayer money on golf instead of helping citizens, calling him a “danger to the whole world.”
Beyond Decor: White Lists His Grievances
White expressed surprise that his comments about interior design had triggered such a strong reaction.
“How funny that it wasn’t me calling out Trump’s blatant fascist manipulation of government, his gestapo ICE tactics, his racist remarks about Latinos, Native Americans, etc.,” he wrote.
He further accused Trump of ignoring humanitarian crises in Sudan, Gaza, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and lacking empathy for military veterans and people struggling with poverty.
Sharp Words for MAGA Supporters
In his post, White also mocked Trump supporters, writing:
“So MAGA folk, enjoy your paving over your rose garden, your 200 million dollar ballroom in the White House, and your gaudy ass gold spray-painted trinkets from Home Depot, cause he ain’t spending any money on helping YOU unless you fit into his white supremacist country club rich idiot agenda.”
Not the First Time
This is far from White’s first attack on Trump. After Trump’s 2024 election victory, the musician described him as an “obvious fascist” and a “wannabe dictator.” His latest comments continue a long line of outspoken criticism, this time sparked by the president’s taste in decor.
