Is TikTok Really Making A New App For The US?
Looks like TikTok isn’t just sitting around waiting for talks to wrap up. Word is they’re working on a whole new version of the app just for people in the US. The Information dropped that little bomb and folks have questions. What’s this new version? Why now?
Why Would TikTok Build Another App?
So here’s what’s happening. President Trump’s been on TikTok’s case for a while. He wants China-based ByteDance to sell TikTok’s US side to American investors. Deadline’s been pushed to September 17. But TikTok’s not wasting time. They want a backup plan ready.
They’re aiming to drop this new app in US app stores on September 5. That’s what The Information says anyway. If it happens, people in the US will eventually have to grab this new version to keep scrolling, liking and posting. The old one will still work until March. But after that? Better hope you updated.
It’s wild to think an app with millions of daily users could just flip the switch. But with all the politics wrapped up in this, maybe they have no choice. No official word yet though. TikTok’s staying pretty quiet.
Will A Sale Actually Happen?
Earlier this year, there was all this chatter about spinning off TikTok’s US part. Make it its own company. Have American investors run it. Sounded doable until China stepped in. They didn’t love that idea, especially after Trump talked tariffs on Chinese goods.
Now Trump’s saying he’ll talk to China about TikTok soon. Maybe Monday or Tuesday. He thinks China will still need to sign off on any deal. So everyone’s waiting to see if that actually happens or if this new app plan becomes real.
No one really knows what this new version would even look like. Same dances, same memes, same viral mess? Probably. Just owned by someone else on paper. Either way, for now, people will keep making TikToks and watching TikToks. Deal or no deal.
