Is Ted Lasso Season 4 Really Happening? Hannah Waddingham Says Yes, and She’s Thrilled
It’s official — Ted Lasso is coming back for Season 4, and no one seems more excited than Hannah Waddingham. The Emmy-winning actress, who plays team owner Rebecca Welton, is more than ready to jump back into character. And her description of the return? Let’s just say it’s not your usual sequel announcement.
“It feels like it was the most beautiful, beloved dog that was buried, and now we’ve exhumed it,” Waddingham said at the Smurfs premiere in Los Angeles. “And I am here for it.” A bit dark? Maybe. But also kind of perfect for a show that balances heart with a hint of chaos.
Hannah didn’t hold back her joy about the upcoming season. “She’s my girl,” she said about Rebecca. “She’s in my bloodstream, so I’m thrilled that it’s been exhumed.” The actress shared that she’s already itching to see where Rebecca’s story is headed — and yes, she’s very ready to go shopping for her character’s next iconic looks.
What will Season 4 of Ted Lasso look like?
The renewal news dropped back in March when Apple TV+ confirmed that the beloved soccer comedy would return. At the time, Jason Sudeikis — who plays the endlessly optimistic Coach Lasso — offered a teaser that hints at more risk-taking and emotional growth.
“In Season Four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK,” Sudeikis said. “Discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.” Classic Lasso energy right there.
While the full cast list hasn’t been revealed yet, we do know Jason Sudeikis is in. Brett Goldstein, aka Roy Kent, who also serves as a writer for the series, said during a recent interview, “Obviously, I can’t tell you a single thing about it, of course, but we’re working on it, and it’s good.” He also hinted that getting everyone back together again has been exciting — which only fuels the anticipation.
What has Waddingham been up to since the series ended?
After Ted Lasso wrapped what many assumed was its final season in 2023, Waddingham didn’t take a break. She jumped straight into big projects like Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and now, she’s voicing a villain in Smurfs — her latest animated film.
At the premiere, she shared that she took on the role for one very sweet reason — her daughter. “She’s just about to turn 11, and I’m not gonna lie, I’m a pretty cool mom right now,” Waddingham said with a laugh.
She also admitted that giving her Smurfs character a gravelly, witchy voice had consequences. “It absolutely mangled my voice senseless,” she said. “It was my own fault for offering it up.”
Despite that vocal strain, she’s already looking ahead to stepping back into Rebecca’s world — boardrooms, scarves, sass, and all.
With 13 Emmy wins and 61 nominations under its belt, Ted Lasso has become a cultural staple. And if Waddingham’s excitement is anything to go by, Season 4 is gearing up to deliver another heartfelt, hilarious ride.
