Indian Man’s Beheading in Texas Sparks Outrage, DHS Says It Was Preventable
The gruesome murder of Indian national Chandra Nagamalliah in Texas has sparked outrage across the US. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) condemned the killing, describing it as a crime that “should never have happened.”
According to DHS, Cuban national Yordanis Cobos-Martinez carried out the brutal attack at a Texas motel. The victim was reportedly beheaded in front of his wife and child before the accused kicked his head on the ground.
Officials said the killing highlighted failures in the immigration system. DHS stressed that if Cobos-Martinez had not been released into the US, the crime would have been prevented.
DHS Statement and Immigration Angle
In a statement posted on X, DHS called Cobos-Martinez a “vile monster.” The agency said the accused should have been deported but was released after Cuba refused to take him back.
“This gruesome, savage slaying of a victim at a motel was completely preventable,” the department wrote. The post went on to say the case underscored the need for tougher measures on criminal undocumented immigrants.
DHS added that under President Trump and Secretary Noem, criminals who enter the US illegally could now be sent to third countries such as Uganda, South Sudan, or Eswatini.
Trump’s Reaction and Criticism of Biden
President Donald Trump also weighed in, expressing shock and anger over the killing. He described the victim as “a well-respected person in Dallas, Texas” and called the murder “brutal and horrifying.”
Writing on Truth Social, Trump accused Joe Biden’s administration of failing to protect Americans. He said Cobos-Martinez had a long history of crime, including child sex abuse, grand theft auto, and false imprisonment.
Trump argued that the Biden administration released Cobos-Martinez into the US despite his criminal background. He promised stricter enforcement to stop similar tragedies from happening again.
Calls for Tougher Enforcement
In his post, Trump pledged that such cases would be handled differently under his leadership. “Rest assured, the time for being soft on these Illegal Immigrant Criminals is OVER,” he declared.
He assured the public that Cobos-Martinez, now in custody, would face first-degree murder charges and be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
The DHS echoed Trump’s message, saying immigration enforcement needed to prioritize public safety over political concerns.
Widespread Outrage and Policy Debate
The killing has provoked widespread outrage in Texas, with community members demanding justice for Nagamalliah. Many have described the crime as one of the most shocking in recent memory.
The case has also reignited debate over immigration policies and deportation practices in the US. Critics say it shows the dangers of releasing undocumented immigrants with criminal records back into communities.
For now, the focus remains on securing justice for the victim’s family while policymakers clash over how to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
