Henry Golding Confirms Crazy Rich Asians Series Moving Forward at HBO Max

Crazy Rich Asians fans finally have something fresh to get excited about. Henry Golding, who starred as the swoon-worthy Nick Young in the 2018 hit, just confirmed that a TV series version is moving forward. And he didn’t just tease it — he gave a real hint at when things might actually get rolling.

Golding popped up on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen and spilled a bit more than anyone expected. He said point blank, “Something’s being made. I think we’re actually going to do a series.” That’s the clearest news fans have heard since talk of a spin-off first bubbled up.

What Did Henry Golding Reveal About The New Series?

Golding kept it real. He said there are scripts out there but he hasn’t read them yet. Apparently, they haven’t been passed along to the cast, but word is they’re “promising.” For a project that’s felt stuck in limbo for years, that’s a big update.

He even dropped a rough timeline. He said the team is “aiming for like first quarter” next year. That could mean filming might start as early as early 2026 — or maybe late 2025 if things move fast. Depending on how it shakes out, fans could see Crazy Rich Asians back on screens sometime in 2026 or 2027.

Who’s Returning For The HBO Max Adaptation?

So far, Golding is the only cast member who’s talked openly about being part of it. There’s no word yet on whether Constance Wu, Awkwafina, or the legendary Michelle Yeoh will be on board. But there is good news behind the scenes.

Adele Lim, who co-wrote the original movie, is back in the driver’s seat as showrunner. She famously stepped away from the sequel over pay issues, but since then she’s been busy — writing Raya and the Last Dragon and directing Joy Ride. Director Jon M. Chu, who brought Kevin Kwan’s glitzy world to life in 2018, is also signed on as executive producer.

For now, the new series has no set premiere date. But hearing Henry Golding confirm that scripts exist and cameras could roll soon is enough to get the Crazy Rich fandom buzzing all over again.
