Groypers vs Turning Point USA: Inside Nick Fuentes’ Long Feud With Charlie Kirk

The feud between Charlie Kirk and Nick Fuentes has resurfaced following the fatal shooting of Kirk on September 9. With Tyler Robinson identified as the suspect, speculation about his possible ties to Fuentes’ far-right “Groyper” movement has reignited tensions within conservative circles.

Some of Kirk’s supporters claimed Robinson may have been a Groyper, pointing to the group’s long-standing hostility toward the Turning Point USA founder. Fuentes, however, has denied any connection, saying such claims are attempts to smear him.

Even as Fuentes distances himself, the resurfacing of their rivalry has highlighted divisions inside the conservative movement in America.

How the Feud Began

Kirk and Fuentes both rose to prominence as conservative voices but quickly diverged in ideology. Kirk, as head of Turning Point USA, positioned himself as a mainstream conservative focused on appealing to younger audiences.

Fuentes, by contrast, embraced a more extreme far-right agenda. The FBI has described him as a white supremacist, and his rhetoric often included controversial stances on immigration, LGBTQ rights, and foreign policy.

The feud escalated in 2019 during Kirk’s “Culture War” speaking tour, when Fuentes orchestrated coordinated disruptions. Groypers would show up at events, confront Kirk with hostile questions, and accuse him of being a “fake conservative.”

Fuentes’ Attacks on Kirk

For years, Fuentes and his Groyper followers continued targeting Kirk both online and in person. They mocked him for being too moderate and unwilling to adopt their hardline policies.

The Groypers also criticized Kirk’s support for Israel and tolerance of LGBTQ conservatives, claiming those positions proved he was part of the establishment.

As a result, Fuentes and his movement were banned from many conservative conferences and gatherings, further deepening the divide between the two camps.

Speculation After Kirk’s Death

When news broke of Kirk’s assassination, attention quickly turned to the Groypers. Some supporters of Kirk suggested that the suspect, Tyler Robinson, may have had ties to the movement.

A Democratic congressman from Utah even speculated publicly about possible links, pointing to the feud as a potential motive. The comments amplified online chatter and added fuel to an already tense situation.

However, no evidence has been presented connecting Robinson to Fuentes or his followers.

Fuentes Denies Any Links

Nick Fuentes strongly rejected claims that Groypers were connected to the assassination. On September 12, he posted on X that the allegations were nothing more than a setup.

He told Axios the speculation came from “Resistance boomers” who had “literally zero evidence.” He mocked critics for only recently learning what a Groyper was.

Fuentes argued that attempts to link him to Kirk’s death were politically motivated attacks designed to discredit his movement.

A Conservative Rift That Endures

Regardless of whether Groypers had any connection to the tragedy, the incident has reminded many of the bitter rift between Kirk and Fuentes. Their feud represents two competing visions of conservatism in the US.

Kirk sought to build a big-tent movement that appealed to younger conservatives, while Fuentes championed a hardline base resistant to compromise.

As debates over Kirk’s death continue, the rivalry between Turning Point USA and Groypers is once again in the spotlight, showing how fractured the conservative landscape has become.
