Ghost of Yotei Announced: Release Date, Story, Editions, and Trailer Details

PlayStation fans, get ready to return to feudal Japan—this time with a new hero and a whole new mission. Sony has officially announced Ghost of Yotei, the long-awaited follow-up to 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima, developed once again by Sucker Punch Productions. The new title will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, with the release date set for October 2, 2025.

The announcement came via the game’s second trailer, titled The OnryĹŤ’s List, which dropped on YouTube and gave fans their first real look at the new protagonist, Atsu, and the story’s revenge-driven plot. With rich visuals, intense new combat mechanics, and deeper customization, Ghost of Yotei is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated PlayStation releases of the year.

What Is Ghost of Yotei About?

The story of Ghost of Yotei begins in tragedy. Atsu, the game’s protagonist, was once a young girl whose family was brutally murdered by a group of six masked outlaws known as the Yotei Six. Left for dead, she survives—only to return 16 years later with one mission: vengeance.

The trailer reveals that Atsu’s targets are now feared figures across the region of Ezo—The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and their leader, Lord Saito. Each outlaw presents a unique challenge, and players will hunt them down one by one as they unravel deeper secrets about their past and the world around them.

The gameplay is built on the foundations of Ghost of Tsushima, but adds new weapons, immersive storytelling mechanics, and the ability to relive Atsu’s memories, adding emotional depth and more narrative flexibility. Players can also explore the open world more freely with new features like campfires, similar to Red Dead Redemption 2, allowing them to rest and plan in real time.
