Emily Ratajkowski Talks Dating, Queer Community & Decentering Straight Men in Her Life

Emily Ratajkowski is rewriting the rules of her personal life—and she’s doing it on her terms.

In a new interview with Elle UK on June 18, the 34-year-old model and author shared that her world no longer revolves around men, especially straight ones. Sure, she still likes them. But as she put it, “They’re pleasure and fun—not part of my core.”

It’s a shift. A big one. And she’s pretty clear about it.

Men Are Not the Main Character

Emily says she’s made a conscious effort to decenter straight men in her life.

She now surrounds herself mostly with women and queer friends—people she calls her community. And it’s been “really wonderful,” she said.

Gone are the days of shaping her world around male attention or validation.

Being Single, Being Selective

Emily’s been single since 2022, when she ended her marriage to film producer Sebastian Bear-McClard, with whom she shares her son, Sylvester Apollo Bear.

In a separate 2023 interview with HommeGirls, she shared how freeing it’s been to be on her own.

“Younger me would’ve settled for some mid dude just to say I had a boyfriend,” she said.
“Glad I’m not in that era anymore.”

She’s Open—To Vibes, Not Just Labels

When it comes to dating now, Emily isn’t sticking to one box.

She said she’s open to dating women, but it’s all about the vibe, not the label.

“Sometimes it just randomly hits me and I’m like, ‘Whoa, I’m attracted to this person!’”

That kind of honesty makes her even more real.
