Disney Settles Lawsuit with Portland Pickles Over Copyright Dispute
The Portland Pickles and Disney have come to a settlement in a copyright infringement case involving a fictional baseball team in a Disney+ animated series.
According to court filings, Pickles operator Rose City Baseball LLC filed the lawsuit back in May, accusing Disney of copying the team’s likeness for merchandise and characters featured in the streaming show Win or Lose. The team was seeking damages and a court order to stop Disney from using any similar branding.
This week, both sides informed the court that they had reached a settlement “in principle” and asked for a 30-day stay to finalize the deal. Details of the agreement have not been made public yet.
The Portland Pickles have not released an official comment, but FOX 12 reported that inquiries have been made to the team for further information.
The dispute centers on the alleged resemblance between the Portland Pickles’ branding and a fictional team in the animated series. The Pickles, a minor league baseball team known for their quirky mascot and merch, claimed Disney’s use of similar imagery crossed a legal line.
With the agreement now in the works, it looks like both parties are moving toward a resolution without taking the battle further in court.
