Devon Walker Confirms Exit from SNL: “Sometimes It Was Toxic as Hell”
Meta Title: Devon Walker Exits SNL After 3 Seasons Ahead of Major Cast Shakeup
Comedian Devon Walker has officially said goodbye to Saturday Night Live. After three seasons with the NBC sketch comedy institution, the 34-year-old announced his departure on Monday, August 25, via a candid and emotional Instagram post.
“Me and baby broke up ❤️”
In a note titled “wait..did he quit or did he get fired?”, Walker reflected on his time at 30 Rock, describing the experience as a mix of highs and lows.
“To me, jobs in this industry feel like a bunch of little marriages. Some of them last for a long time if we’re lucky, but most of them are fleeting,” he wrote. “Me and the show did three years together, and sometimes it was really cool. Sometimes it was toxic as hell.”
Despite the challenges, Walker expressed gratitude for the friends he made along the way, including fellow comedians Gary and Alex, who he said went from “running a bar show to working together at 30 Rock.”
He ended his post on a lighthearted note, sharing his next move:
“I’m bout to go to Japan. When I get back, I’m tryna be in a prestige drama. Ideally something with Julianne Moore.”
Walker’s SNL Journey
Devon joined SNL as a featured player in 2022 during Season 48 and was later promoted to the main cast in 2024. During his run, he appeared in a variety of sketches and was featured regularly on Weekend Update with Colin Jost and Michael Che. He also gained attention for his spot-on impressions of New York Mayor Eric Adams, Michael Strahan, and Van Jones.
Walker at the SNL50 Celebration
Walker recently took part in the SNL50 celebration, a star-studded milestone season that featured the return of icons like Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, and Maya Rudolph. According to SNL creator Lorne Michaels, major cast changes were held off during Season 50 so the focus could remain on honoring the show’s legacy.
“I wanted people coming back and being part of the 50th season,” Michaels told Puck News in an August 22 interview. “So there couldn’t be those kinds of disruptions.”
Big Changes Ahead for Season 51
Walker’s exit is just the beginning of what appears to be a larger cast shakeup for the upcoming Season 51, which premieres October 4 at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
Michaels teased that the new season will bring some fresh faces, revealing,
“Yes, we’re making changes. It’ll be announced in a week or so.”
Veteran cast member Kenan Thompson, who has been on the show for 22 seasons, hinted at more departures during an interview with Page Six in May, calling the Season 50 finale “bittersweet.”
“There’s maybe, possibly, a lot of change next year,” Thompson said. “You want everyone to stay forever, but people may be making decisions over the summer.”
Final Thoughts
Devon Walker’s departure is a big moment for fans who enjoyed his voice and versatility over the past three years. As he looks ahead to new projects—and possibly a dramatic role with Julianne Moore—fans are already excited to see what’s next.
In his own words:
“Hope y’all staying hydrated and getting some money today.”
