Dennis Quaid Shares Emotional Update on Daughter Zoe After Texas Floods
Dennis Quaid is letting fans know his daughter Zoe is safe following the tragic Texas floods that shook the Hill Country region. During a July 10 appearance on Hannity, the 71-year-old actor opened up about the terrifying night he heard about the flooding near Camp Mystic — a place that holds special memories for many families in the area.
Zoe Quaid, who is 17, is currently working as a camp counselor nearby. Dennis shared that she was only a few miles away from the deadly flash floods that impacted parts of the Texas Hill Country. While her camp was untouched, the experience still left Dennis deeply shaken as a father.
“Hill County in Texas is a magical place, especially for children going to camp there. It’s a cherished memory you carry with you all your life,” he said during the segment. “My daughter was a few miles away from Mystic, further north. Thankfully, their camp was okay.”
How did Dennis find out about the floods?
It was late at night when Dennis first heard the news. Like any parent would, he immediately tried to call his daughter. “I heard about this as I was going to bed that night,” he shared. “I tried to call her because I knew she was up there.”
He couldn’t reach her until the next day. That long night left him sleepless. “I didn’t really get a lot of sleep that night,” he said. “I knew it wasn’t right where the floods were, but still, you just want to hear your kid’s voice in those moments.”
That moment of fear hit close for many parents. Dennis and his ex-wife Kimberly Buffington are parents to twins Zoe and Thomas. And despite years of being in the public eye, moments like this remind people that celebrities are parents first when it comes to their children’s safety.
How are other families coping with this tragedy?
The floods claimed the life of 9-year-old Janie Hunt, a cousin of Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt. Dennis took a moment during the broadcast to send heartfelt condolences to the family.
“My heart goes out to everybody,” Dennis said. “And my heart goes out to the Hunt family, who are friends of my wife Laura and me. Janie Hunt, who was lost that weekend. I can’t imagine… how devastating that would be. None of us can.”
Jenna Bush Hager, co-host of Today with Jenna and Friends, also got emotional while discussing the heartbreaking situation. Her own daughters were dropped off at a separate summer camp in Texas right after the floods. As she explained on the July 7 show, the experience was heavy with emotion.
“We send our kids into the world with the faith that they can have happy lives, joyful lives,” Jenna said. “And as adults, we know pain. We hope that our kids never, ever face it.”
Her words echoed what many parents across Texas are feeling right now. There’s pride in raising strong kids, but also fear. Especially in moments like this, where nature’s power feels overwhelming.
Texas families are leaning on faith, community, and each other. The memories of those lost will never be forgotten, and for the ones who made it through — like Zoe — gratitude sits right alongside the grief.
