Danville Councilman Lee Vogler Set on Fire in Shocking Attack: Wife Blair and Children Left Reeling
Lee Vogler, a longtime member of the Danville City Council in Virginia, was seriously injured on Wednesday after a horrifying attack that has shaken the local community. The suspect, Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes, reportedly forced his way into Vogler’s office, doused him in gasoline, and set him on fire outside the building.
Authorities confirmed the motive behind the attack was personal, though no further details have been made public. Vogler, 38, was airlifted to a burn unit in North Carolina, where he is currently fighting for his life.
Brutal Attack in Broad Daylight
The attack happened at the Showcase Magazine office, where Vogler works as a managing partner with Andrew Brooks Media Group. According to publisher Andrew Scott Brooks, the suspect stormed in, confronted Vogler, then chased him outside and set him ablaze.
“Our door is locked,” Brooks said. “They forced their way into the office, and went to Lee. The next thing, Lee is running through the office covered in gasoline, yelling for our officemate to call 911.”
Two employees were reportedly inside at the time of the incident. Witnesses said Vogler screamed for help as he ran through the office in flames before collapsing outside. Emergency services arrived quickly, and the suspect was arrested on the spot, now facing charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated malicious wounding.
“There’s no excuse for violence, no matter the circumstances,” Brooks added.
