Chance the Rapper Announces ‘And We Back Tour’ Ahead of New Album Star Line
Chance the Rapper is hitting the stage once again — and this time, he’s bringing new music with him.
On Monday, August 11, the three-time Grammy winner revealed that he’s heading out on his And We Back Tour in support of his upcoming album Star Line, which drops Friday, August 15. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, August 12.
The 32-year-old artist, whose full name is Chancelor Johnathan Bennett, will perform in 15 cities across North America. The tour kicks off September 26 in Houston and includes stops in New Orleans, Toronto, New York City, Los Angeles, and his hometown of Chicago before wrapping up October 20 in Los Angeles.
A Long-Awaited Album
Star Line marks Chance’s first full album since 2019’s The Big Day. According to the official press release, the project “reflects Chance’s global journey, artistically, spiritually, and physically, over the past six years” and blends hip-hop, soul, and experimental sounds with “lyrical meditations on identity, resilience, and legacy.”
While the new record incorporates influences from his travels, it stays rooted in what has always defined his music — a deep connection to Chicago and Black culture around the world.
The lead single, “Tree,” featuring Lil Wayne and Smino, dropped July 3 after debuting at the Lyrical Lemonade Smash festival in Illinois on June 22. Chance explained to Rolling Stone that while the track may seem like a straightforward weed anthem, it’s also a commentary on inequities in the cannabis industry, which he uses as a broader metaphor for agricultural disparities, especially those impacting Black farmers.
Life Experiences Shaping the Music
Since The Big Day, Chance has gone through major life changes — including his divorce from Kirsten Corley — and embarked on travels that took him as far as Ghana to reconnect with family. These personal and cultural experiences have shaped the sound of Star Line, with Chance noting that the production draws from Black music that inspired him in childhood and during his journeys.
“There’s a lot of other regions’ sounds,” he said, describing the album’s mix as “super experimental” in some places while deeply traditional in others.
